Schaefer: Mayweather-Khan Would Fall in Nov. 2012

Over at the scene now, he says the only thing that would hold this fight up is if Mayweather-Pac got made. the other obvious thing is probably if either of them lose.

 

they are talking up the Khan fight so much. its all a negotiations ploy to get Mayweather more bargaining power in talks with Arum.

If you think about it Mayweather vs Khan, Cotto, Alvarez and Martinez are all $40million fights for Mayweather. After Marquez 3 its only Tim Bradley left for Manny.

 

Manny could always fight Mcloskey in a homecoming fight.

 

So Manny can’t fight Alvarez? Huh?

Pacquiao has to beat Marquez first..... could always be a 4th fight.

Rob is right though, Golden Girl hold most of the aces in the 135-154 divisions, the ones that Arum has have already been beaten by Pacquiao.

The problem Mayweather might have if he's serious about this latest comeback is that most of the GBP fighters are young pups or aren't going to be risked in such a big fight. Can't see him fighting Cotto now either, even though Cotto has slipped from when a fight was originally mooted.

There might be a calming in relations between the two parties brokered by the new head honchos at HBO who've been neglecting the sport in favour of sucking up to DLH for years.

I honestly don't see Pacquiao continuing for too much longer, whereas I think Mayweather has to in order to get the respect he feels he deserves.

 

thats the number being banded about. take away $40mil and replace it with 1mil+ PPV sales on HBO.

No Manny cannot fight Alvarez. Manny cannot go higher than 150 Mayweather can.

I am not floyd hugging here, Mayweather has more options.

 

Floyd would not fight Martinez, no chance.

 

Floyd certainly won’t fight anyone at 154. He was struggling to put on weight for Oscar and went right back down after. Alvarez would be massive compared to him and Martinez… well, that would be horrible to watch. Sergio probably hits the ring around 168-170 – Mayweather will be luck to be 154!

Consider that and the fact he picked a really weak sister for his “comeback” fight and you’ll see his options are very limited. After Ortiz, who is there?

Bradley? Another 140lb fighter? Khan? Another 140lb fighter who already got sparked by a journeyman? Is Floyd finally making an attempt to beat the best at LWW, but a division up?

Nah, he’s out of options too and I think he knows it. Fighting Ortiz is a calculated ploy. He’d come off a good performance, beaten a hype-job with a little bit of recognition, and people had forgotten how flawed and mentally weak he is.

But Floyd is nothing if not a student of the game. He sees Ortiz’s weak mind, his poor punching form, his atrocious footwork and his lack of a jab. This is going to be a clinic after the first round.

Expect Pacquiao to fight Cotto again, Arum knows he's done which is why he's only putting him in with the likes of Yuri Foreman and a shot Mayorga, he's trying to keep his name out there without risking him until he's ready to cash him in with a rematch.

 

What other than the Margarito one? Arum’s cashing both guys out. There will be nothing left of either.

 

I am not saying Floyd will fight those guys, just like i said in my first post of the thread he won't fight Khan either.

Just stating he has more potential opponents when it comes to negotiating a Pacquiao fight.

The problem Mayweather has (IMO) is that the outcome of a potential Pacquiao fight will determine how he is remembered - that's clearly of great concern to him and deep down he'll know that it's his fault that this is the case.

Meanwhile Pacquiao on the other hand doesn't need this fight. If he takes the fight and loses, so what? He's a featherweight who moved up to welterweight and beat a stack of top class opposition in impressive fashion.

If he wins..... :yikes

In the time that Mayweather has spent ''retired'', Pacquiao defeated Marquez, Diaz, DLH, Hatton, Margarito and Mosley, with the Cotto and Clottey wins coming in between Mayweather's two most recent contests.

Mayweather could have fought Margarito, Cotto, Williams - and the Pac fight would just be a bonus ala Hagler vs Leonard.
