Roy Jones Jr Vs Mike Spinks.

That's one matchup I wouldn't like for Roy. Spinks' awkwardness would nullify his usual force of nature style and Spinks would time him at some point and spark him. Great fight though, and even at 175 I find it hard not to pick Roy against anyone. Timing and accuracy are the key to besting prime Jones; the ability to catch him when he's in full elusive mode, as well as the poise to quickly pull yourself together after taking one of his fast blows/combos. Fitz would have a good chance.

Obvious bad matchup: Roy Vs Bob Foster. Stylistically.

Roy is trouble for anyone at 160 and 168 at the peak of his powers. I don't think there is anyone you could bet your house on beating him.

Yes Flea, but I'd like to counter that by saying:

    AND STILL!

At 168, no one (Fitz would have best chance IMO)

At 160: pretty much no one. Roy has the perfect style to beat Monzon IMO. Monzon would find it very hard to build his rhythm and get his timing down here IMO. He'd be chasing all night, though over 15 it's obviously a bit more interesting but I have no doubt Roy could keep his schtick going for another 9 minutes.

Roy's the baddest ma'****er to ever to step in the ring, and he'd hit Spinks with lefts and rights and all kind of things.

Agree with that actually. I think he'd decimate Fitz too if we're being absolutely honest with ourselves.

Hagler would be the best bet.

In his prime, a wonderful sight to behold. In his prime, the most painfully weak rapper ever.

Don't get me wrong jpab: Roy is my hero. See my encyclopaedia piece on him to see how much I rate him :good

But some of the 175lbers were real monsters that even Roy would have a hard time doing anything effective against. I'll take him over your Yaqui Lopez's, Oakland Billy Smiths and would stretch to Marvin Johnson and even Saad (and Roy would really have to be at range in that one) but Spinks, Foster and Moore are bad ideas.

In terms of 'boxers' I wouldn't hesitate to pick him over Harold Johnson, Pastrano and Conteh. Charles is a big ask because of the power, but if Roy sees Charles setting for his big shots and steps out of range whenever Charles shoots a jab (as clear an indication as any summat is comin' behind it with Charles!) then he can negate Charles power.

When it comes to the battle of boxing ability, whilst Charles' is more technically adept, I think Roys lack of pattern would 'cause Charles timing slip somewhat. Roy could fit his left hook in well against Ezzard, who could be hit with it.

It's Fitz's timing though. In an era filled with fighters with low guards darting in and out to avoid vicious blows, he was able to time guys and take them out with brutal power.

I also think he was more susceptible to the lighter, faster guys so yeah, another factor in Roys favour, I'm not saying Fitz would win but he'd have a better chance than anyone IMO to catch Roy in full-flow and put him out.

I reckon Roy would 'do a Leonard' on a peak Hagler, but with more punches. Hagler obviously isn't going anywhere, but he isn't winning on points despite his varied, switch-hitting style, but he won't get to Roy enough to grind him down to a stoppage. Same goes for Dick Tiger.
