In your opinion who was the best fighter?

They're right on a par with each other, really, although if forced I'd go with Watanabe just slightly.

I'd say Watanabe was the more physically talented(and arguably the more naturally talented stylist), but the less dedicated and more prone to overconfidence, laziness and mental lapses in his fights. The early Watanabe had a great combo of power and speed as well as being one of the best movers i've seen.

Gushiken could coast too like he did aginst the inept aniceto Vargas, but he was usually consistent until his late reign burnout. He can also earn potential bonus cred for more closely resembling the mighty Kalule.

i really like gushiken and have just got a few watanabe fights on disc but have yet to watch them properly , so at the moment i would have to go with gushiken as he has the cooler hair

You're a good poster green man. It's a shame you got off to such an aggressive start which leads me to believe perhaps this is an alt?

To the question, how to separate these two? Very very even. Perhaps i'll side with mr butt and base it on hair style :)

agreed, simply because of the proven factor, but on a personal level I prefer Gushiken, one of my favourite fighters of all time just to watch at work. Watanabe though was a technician that would tend to go into pure boxer mode whereas Gushiken was a technician who would go into puncher mode. Both were aesthetically pleasing as technicians in their own right, great viewing, and for me, especially Gushiken.

I gave the edge based on talent, actually. Watanabe was the better mover, the better athlete, had the better handspeed, combination punching, etc. Skill-wise they were about equal, Jiro was just better physically I'd say. Both have pretty poor resumes given the standards they're judged at.

Yeah. As I say, Watanabe would go into pure boxer mode, and as you say, he utilised better movement. Both were technicians with what they were doing. Gushiken's biggest compliment is that he was a ring general imo. I can't really call him an atg though, not with that resume, I just find him spectacular to watch, that's all.

Watanabe was better than Gushiken by a pretty clear margin IMO.
