Who ranks higher as an ATG, hitman Hearns or Roy Jones jr?

roy jones counldnt carry hearns jock strap.

 

I have to say hearns ranks higher he was in a better era, beat better fighters and he also beat a better version of virgil hill when hearns was past his prime himself.. But roy jones in his prime was a more skilled fighter then hearns and if them two were to fight I'd favour jones (if hearns lands that right hand its lights out 4 jones lol). Like I said jones had more potential then hearns but didn't take full advantage of it
Plus the more ko loses jones is suffering his hurting his legacy even more.

I could argue the point easily either way, but I'd definitely go with Jones. I just think he's the greatest fighter ever at MW and SMW and maybe also LHW. When he had ATG type opponents in front of him he made them look slow, confused and helpless. If Hearns and RJJ matchup at MW RJJ would probably come out the gate at the bookies at least a 3 to 1 favorite, if not more. Prime RJJ is up there in the clouds with a young Ali and a welterweight SRR, just a ****ing awesome and seemingly unbeatable fighting machine.

 

It's a tough one. Roy fought and beat some great fighters, Hearns fought and beat some great fighters. I don't know if I could pick one. Hearns never had the type of domination Roy did, but Roy also didn't fight quite to the quality of fighters that Hearns did.

 

Hearns & it's not even funny to argue this.... I mean, seriously, Calzaghe's name would better fit the opp to Hearns in this poll... This is boxing, it's a pro sport, and fans will always b fans!!!

So does Hopkins, so does Monzon, maybe James Toney. RJJ would make it look easy. Hagler is overrated mostly because of the life and death fights he had with welterweights moving up into his division. One of which he lost. At 46, Hopkins STILL beats the SRL that whooped Hagler.

 

Don't pay any attention to Bernie. He's mad that Hagler made the bald look fashionable and he could never get it to work, which sucks for him because he's now old and incapable of growing hair.

 

Hagler was past it when he fought SRL. The WW that he struggled with are all top 40 ATG fighters so it can be forgiven.

Jones IMO... Hearns is mostly known for losing to some of the best fighters he faced.

 

There's nothing to indicate that he was past it except he got beat by SRL. To me, that doesn't indicate that Hagler was past it, it indicates that there was a wide difference in talent level between those two fighters. Hagler wasn't old, and he didn't show any great decline. He just got beat at his own weight by a smaller man who was a MUCH better p4p fighter.

I don't hate Hagler, he was a great fighter. I just don't think he's as great as most people seem to, and I think I have some pretty damn good reasons for that. Nobody thus far has been able to convince me otherwise and I'm pretty open to having my mind changed when the facts go against my opinion. In Hagler's case, they don't.
