Groves going to matchroom

Good. It's annoying how gay he is for Team Hayemaker. The more he can get away from that the better.

Even though he had a big win last time out I'm still not convinced ''The Dark Lord'' is the right trainer for him.

Trying to copy the ''hands down, reflex defence, knock the other guy out with one punch whilst wasting energy running around the ring'' style doesn't really suit him, and the record for that style stands at 2-1, the two wins being by MD.

The way Team Hayemaker constantly talk about retirement makes me think it's a secret suicide pact - we've heard Haye, Booth and Coldwell all talk about retiring in 2011.

His natural style I think is to stand his ground behind a Hatton type guard and use the jab to work openings, and going to the body a lot.

We'll wait and see what happens with him, good move.

 

I thought it was a combination of both.

Groves did some good things, he was able to make DeGale miss a lot and knew when he needed a big round and generally got one.

It hinged a fair bit on DeGale, who was just.... **** basically. Plodding forward, not even trying to work angles or let his hands go.

If he'd been a bit smarter he'd have just come forward windmilling to try and win the fight on workrate alone, wouldn't be the first time a man coming forward has stolen a decision from the retreater.

 

Beetson is right its a combo at both but I don't think you can say Groves should move on from Booth.

You got to remember that Groves is still learning, still growing etc. Theres doubts about his chin so it would be foolish for him to fight in a gung ho style.

For me all the doubts about Groves are the same as Froch at a simular, if not later stage of Frochs career.

So will Booth still be training him if true. Would be stupid to leave him.

Harsh on Booth and Groves, they implemented a game plan that DeGale or Jimmy did not forsee or react to.

 

Its a smart move also means there is 2 to 3 free dates for the other promotions to put on fights on Sky. Maybe see each promotor getting a extra Sky date to put on a show now. The thing you look at the promotions team out there I would be worried a bit worried for Maloney I think he needs to get a stronger stable than what he has compared to others.

 

So Groves beats Degale and the Dark Lord (all praise) is King...and Haye loses cos he's a **** and the Dark Lord is bad news and now Groves should leave him?
I'm ignoring the Haye in Hayemaker...or should I not? I know he carries most of the weight behind the name but Groves is in the same boat (except one of his mates has a sore toe)

I always felt Groves was a bit wasted at Hayemaker promotions. I hope he can still train with Adam Booth, the more fights Groves can get the better he will become. He doesn't need to rush in full guns blazing he's already had a couple of tough tests with Kenny Anderson and James DeGale, I think it's time they tested him out against some tough European contenders. Also from what I've seen of Groves he does need to improve against pressure fighters. Given Kenny Andersons success against him at times.

Lets see how this one pans out.

 

you cant deny groves' improvements from the anderson fight, he's punches became shorter, moved his head more and kept his hands up more.

 

Completely mate, I'm not sure why some people moan about boxers winning 'tactically'* in some fights. If he's gonna do 'this' then you do 'that'. Thats the science. Groves had it spot and HE executeD it, not booth, not us in the crowd, not that twat in the hat, just him, and he did. I know that type of tactic can be boring to some fans but **** if its the biggest fight of your career the BRAVO.
