Only just got round to seeing this fight. Wow! What a fight. Both fighters showed they could do everything in this fight. Both operated on the backfoot successfully, both operated coming forward successfully. Both stood and traded successfully.

Toney was lightning back then, i didnt realise he'd ever been so quick. His beautiful counters and perfect accuracy were on display too. McCallum, known for his body attack, showed how versatile he was, having to switch it up, and for most of the fight his attack was with the jab upstairs, doubling/tripling up on the jab and lead straights to the head.

What impressed me most was the vast amount of clean bombs both men took and were completely un-phased by. We know both of these guys can hit very hard and knock mother ****ers out cold. McCallum's chin especially, he was hit many times with perfect accurate counter shots clean on the temple but was coming back straight away with one of his own. Toney was a terminator, slight snap of the neck when he got hit then back to being cool as ice in a split second.

Their offensive talents somewhat cancelled out each other's defense and it got abit wild at points. Toney had the composure and sharpness over him though, his reaction time and crisp counters won him a close fight i feel. I didnt score it but i'd give it to Toney i think.

Who cares anyway? Incredibly impressive performance by both. If you haven't seen it check it out. I dont know why this fight isn't talked about more

One of my favorite fights of all-time. Just an incredibly high level of sustained skill. This fight alone should get JT into the HOF. The second fight was good too, even more tactical.

It's also interesting to note that McCallum is really the only fighter that Toney ever gives credit to and routinely says is the best he ever fought.

Toney won it with the last round. Very, very close fight.

Are you trying to say it was a boring fight? If so, you really need to watch this fight. You'll be surprised how mistaken you are.

This was the first fight I ever got on ppv. I was 14 years old. I still have it on vhs somewhere. I thought Toney clearly won one of the most competitive bouts I've ever seen.

I think I scored the rematch a draw, but I need to watch it again. Age may have changed my mind.

    Ruiz-Golota isn't that bad :D

The skill shown in Toney-McCallum is a real treat.

no I'm actually saying on my list of fights to watch, this is next after Ruiz-Golota. As in I'm going to watch ruiz v golota and then I'm going to watch mccallum v toney.

No idea how you interpreted what you did from my post.
