If you've ever boxed 'n been knocked down or out...

I used to spar with a squat guy, short with short arms but when he landed it hurt. First round was easy work, second I was clowning, went southpaw, did a Hamed impression, third round he caught me right on my chin, I dropped, saw stars. Got right back up and faked like I was okay til the round ended, but yeah- literally saw stars.

 

I took a hard left hook to the solar plexus during a sparring session when I was 18. It was a sudden paralyzing pain, like having your chest pierced with an electric drill. I had to stop for like 20-30 sec. Made me feel somewhat better when the guy told me I hurt him before he landed that shot.

 

How'd ya like ta taste those every day, n? Givesya fresh respect for journeyman fighter.

yep, had that as well... i was mucking around with a friend who trains for MMA and has a ring at his house (very well off, earns 500k a year in financial services but is busting to be a fighter)

i threw a straight left (im a southpaw) and he moved his head out of the way, pivoted and bent down at the same time and dug under my ribs with a sort of uppercut hook punch wearing 8 or 10 ounce gloves. I felt like someone had sucked the air out of my lungs with a vaccum cleaner. I literally crumpled like a wilted plant on to the canvas and rolled on to my side. All i can remember is thinking I was going to die from lack of air, i was totally in shock and could only make a low whimpering noise whilst desperately trying to get air in to my lungs. He stood me up to open my diaphragm and i managed to slowly recover over the next 10 minutes. Worst pain ever. My liver and ribs hurt like hell and sleeping, breathing and eating became extraordinarilly difficult for the next few days

a month or two later i hit him with a straight left to the guts, right on the belly button and he ended up in a similar situation... it was one of those punches that feels good when you land it because it hits really clean.

 

Watched James Toney do that to a succession of heavyweight sparring partners, leaving several puking on the canvas.

 

Mad respect for those guys. My favorite is Zack Page. Tim Bowe was an entertaining guy too, but I think he stopped fighting 5 years ago.

They make way too many mistakes and quite sloppy. Im not the best by any means but im pretty sure I can hang at this level and go a bit further, just need to work on my fitness and stamina (bit too much holiday weight)

I wouldnt mind fighting Joe Calzaghe Jr.

To be honest I just enjoy fighting haha but ill keep you posted when I start :good

 

Hell ****ing no it aint for sissies ..For months I couldn't even get the breathing right with the mouth guatd I kept thinking I was drowning in my own spit .The respect I have for the pros goes beyond measure ..

Well, I wasn't boxing, but as a kid me and some other kids would get together after school, lay out some mats and do this fighting that was half pro-wrestling and half brawling.

I usually did pretty well even with the kids who had a few years on me, but I got taken down once by a body shot to the solar plexus and like a bunch of others have said, it's ****ing horrible. You can't breathe, your ability to control your body goes away, you feel these knives stabbing you all over your mid-section. I think I remember somehow managing to shout or scream once even though it seemed like I couldn't breathe and I was writhing around on the ground trying to get up.

I also got KO'd by a head blow for about a second when I was about 6 or 7. I was arguing at the park with a kid and he pushed me, I fell and hit the side of my head (right around the temple area) on the base of a statue depicting the flag raising in Iwo Jima.

There were these bits of light for a second, not quite seeing stars but more like those multicolor flashes you see when you close your eyes after getting a picture taken by a camera with a strong flash. Then there was a second of deep blackness that just felt so much darker and heavier than it does when you close your eyes, like for a second I was buried somewhere that light couldn't reach me.

It didn't hurt at all, I just felt slightly numb and things seemed slightly out of focus when I got back up. I must have picked myself up after just a second or two, because no one was around me yet or anything. Then one of the older kids comes over to see if I'm ok and when I turn towards him I see his eyes go really wide and he looks like he wants to shout "Holy ****!" but forgot how. Just then I get enough feeling back that I start feeling something moving on my face, so I put my hand there and it comes away covered in blood.

That made for a fun trip to the ER! Barely needed any stitches but just wouldn't stop bleeding. And there's still a scar there and everything.
