Well, most of the boxing world would disagree. Those are two of the most significant wins of the last 20 years.
It is important bc jones was very popular at the time. But the fact reminds the same. Bhop was going for his first title. I REPEAT FIRRRRRRRST TITLE. Toney was a better win bc he was boss at super middle but he did cut 20lbs to make weight. Not saying he would have won but he is not all there. As for as dominating. How can anyone say that jones dominated every fight as if Floyd didn't also. Jones got more power so it looks dominating but floyd shut down his opponents to a i hit u and u look discouraged type fights to a point of boredom.
How does going for his first title automatically make him green? Like someone else said--he didn't lose again for how long? 10-11 years? And their records were close as well so you are completely discounting that Jones may have been just as "green" as well. Bhop may not have been at his absolute prime(which is what--40 for him). But he certainly wasn't a cherry picked fight either.
The man himself said he was green. Jones have an impressive amatuer background. Bhop have a crap amatuer. He learned on the job.
WOuld Dariusz have beaten a prime Jones? Hell to the no, but ill tell you one thing he was alot better than you give him credit for, and alot more highly regarded than Paulie Malinaggi... At one time Darius was knocking on the door of the pfp top 10, and actually would have been one of Jones best wins had he fought him, at least at LH. Darius had a long unbeaten streak and only lost when he was on his way down.... Would have been a good notch for Jones and IMO someone RJ should have fought.
its funny how everyone forgets or didn't know about the sport ten years ago. All the criticisms of Floyd, multiply that by 10 and that was the situation with Roy.
