Armstrong fought against lesser fighters who were lesser conditioned, who punched at lower volumes, who couldn't KO him with one punch. You really don't know boxing at all. SRR has 28 fights against Hall of famers. Thats just 13 fights less than Mayweather has in his entire career. And he had several more fights against borderline Hall of famers and guys that might end up being inducted in the future. And its not like today's fighters dont fight bums. Half of Floyd's 41 opponents are bums ffs.
Fighters of today once they're at PPV level can't fight bums and won't fight bums. SRR would be decimated by the fighters at WW and MW today.

Coming from a guy throwing personal insults out on a boxing forum, it's safe to assume you've never laced up a pair of gloves nor ever trained. It's also safe to assume you have no clue about power standards in athletes today compared to yesteryear. You have to ignore every single sport, including combat sports where there has been a marked improvement in every measureable outcome (speed, strength, length, endurance) over the last 20 years and it continues to improve. You have to ignore the video analysis, the fact that fighters have 4 to 6 months to prepare for a fighter they can review the entire career of through video footage including high def slow motion footage to analyse weaknesses. You have to ignore trainers who are still around today who trained the next generation of trainers who train fighters, the books, the media, all the instant access to fight clips that people have today and believe that has no influence on fighting ability. Basically, you have to remove all reason and logic from your debate and believe solely that "Oh, SRR is the man and therefore beats everyone he faces" and conversely, Jake La Motta who was a crude face first masher would do well in todays era. And you're talking irony.
What, the "greatest" MMA fighter of all time who won the early stages of the "best open weight" fighter title who had one of the styles that has now been mimicked by all fighters (amongst every other style) cannot be compared to some guy from the 50s and 60s vs guys of today in the boxing ring? Why, because fight science, analysis, fight training, footage and the ability to learn about other fighters haven't improved in both sports or something? Oh wait, they have. People don't know... Jake fought several times at LHW, and said he was much stronger and had a near perfect win and KO record at that weight. (He exaggerates slightly.) There was no SMW then. Now Jake would probably fight as a SMW. Think of Froch but IMO much better in several ways; chin, toughness (even though Froch is a tough dude), boxing. Even with the Valentine's massacre, Jake wouldn't go down or quit. Beating SRR when SRR was 40-0, and KDing him in 2 fights when Sugar was still maybe the best there ever was in boxing, cannot be overstated. Jake was a better boxer than given credit for, with lots of intangibles (like tossing Cerdan down in that fight, when needed?) Jake would take anything anyone has to offer now at MW or SMW and give back more. He would only lose to someone of the caliber of SRR. Is there someone like that now at SMW? /thread
It certainly isn't, you can't know much about textbook boxing, general technique to say otherwise. At punches being quicker so old defensive techniques don't work. So Mayweather/Toney/Hopkins old school techniques from the 40s don't work atsch @ Foreman being faster atsch
