Pretty much a prime for prime match up... I don't care what anyone says but I think anyone with fast/heavy hands would be an interesting challenge for cotto.... anyways what do you think?
Cotto gets floored by this knockdown artist for sure. Miguel isn't exactly competent at fighting southpaws. Ortiz can be outboxed. Miguel fades in the later rounds and can't always handle pressure. It'll be interesting while it lasts.
Closer fight than some think. The obvious answer is that Ortiz would wilt under Cottos pressure late in the fight but Cotto... theres questions about his chin and hes not especially elusive. Against a guy like that a fighter like Ortiz always has a shot and would definitely have his moments in the fight.
I would have to think so if Cotto watched the fight with MAidana. The worst thing he could do would be to try to box on the outside and give Ortiz the room he needs to get his shots in. But then again, he did exactly that against Margarito and late in the fight against Pac and got raped in both instances. I think Cotto doesn't really have the punching power to hang over 140 pounds. I know hes done well at welterweight but against who? Zab Judah? On top of that, hes not always effective when he gets on his toes and jabs and boxes. I think peoples knee jerk reaction would be to pick Cotto in this.
I think Cotto's the better and more polished fighter and would win a UD, or maybe a mid-to-late rounds accumulation stoppage. Ortiz would give Cotto some rough spots though. Especially with that nice right hook, right uppercut combo. It's no secret that Cotto is not exactly that good at neutralizing uppercuts.
Cotto's chin at 147 is more sturdier. Ortiz will have some success because Cotto's defence isn't the best. But as the fight wears on, Cotto will obviously take over. He'll either cruise to a decision or force a later stoppage.
Yeah, because Cotto's stamina is superb in the latter rounds. If anyone is taking over in the latter rounds, its Ortiz.
What, and you think Ortiz would fair any better? A man who has only been 12 rounds once in his whole career, made to quit against a Maidana by the 5th, spent running from Cambell for the majority of the 10, and left clueless in the remaining 4 (of another 10 round fight) against Peterson? You think his fight against a crumbling Berto changes all of that? The Cotto that fought Margarito was a beast. His stamina only becomes a concern when he fights relentless pressure fighters that are full of heart, like a Margarito.
I think Ortiz quitting against MAidana is overstated a bit. Ortiz was taking a pretty sound beating and was hurt pretty badly after the first round. He had broken **** in his face and had he simply stayed on his knee and got counted out, I doubt anyone would have had an issue with the fight.
