This flew under the radar. There literally isn't a thread about it, and El Perro is supposed to have a sizable following on ESB. :huh

Anyway, it's streaming live late tomorrow night. It's free to view online for anyone who has access to ESPN3. Despite being in the same Mexican state and therefore the same time zone, it will be on after the Fernando Montiel bout on Fox Sports. There's no conflict or need to choose one or the other.

He isn't one of my favorite fighters, but Angulo is exciting to watch - I'll give him that. This should be worth tuning in for, even if it is a showcase/slaughter.

    ...and it is. :yep

Here are HL of Joe Gomez against rising Polish middleweight prospect Patrick "The Machine" Majewski. They met at super middleweight, but Gomez didn't look particularly tiny opposite the solid 160-pounder.

    [yt]wQMfsumgqIU[/yt]

Gomez comes forward with a loose, penetrable guard. He falls sloppily into clinches when hit (a very bad instinctual reaction). Worse, he sometimes goes fetal. He does move his head on the outside, but it's far too slow to keep clear of even Angulo's gloves - which do sometimes take the scenic route. Lungy jabs, poor movement, and a proclivity for overestimating his strength in trying to play tug of war on the inside are all indicators that a knockout loss is imminent. His lean-away, roll-with-the-impact defense only worked for as long as Majewski kept his pressure set at "Medium". As soon as Majewski picked it up, it was over. For Angulo, "Medium-High" is his lowest setting. And while Majewski is a nice prospect and bigger than Angulo, he isn't as heavy-handed or bloodthirsty a finisher.

Angulo HAS to impress here, if he's serious about turning over a new leaf in his career and getting it back on the fast track. He needs to outdo Majewski, and putt well within par. If this goes 7 rounds, :-( it means something isn't right with Angulo beyond just shaking a little ring rust - either problems in his camp or that his mind ain't right. A loss or even just a draw would be devastating.

Anyway, it's the only widely viewable boxing this Saturday night. So tune in, and keep Mister Gomez in your prayers tonight that it might be mercifully quick. :pop

Even with the thirteen month layoff, I'm thinking a truly fired-up Angulo looking to back up his talk takes no more than three rounds on this garbage haul. In and out by 12:15am.

So is there anywhere we can watch it without having ESPN3?

Angulo needs to get back to the US. He was about to go big time and then spent a year in the shadows. Now with Canelo, Lara, PW, Bundrage and Trout he has plenty of good opponents to choose from Oh yea also Dzinziruk. I know HBO owes him a date so why not match him with one of their favorites in Angulo. If he wins that title they have a new star on their hands who always delivers.

Yea. If you saw my predictions thread I said Angulo KO 2. El Perro is a beast! Future Champion. One of the most entertaining fighters today. Is the Montiel fight televised?

BTW: Here is the predictions thread - http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=336394

Montiel is tuning up against Alvaro Perez practically down the street from where Angulo and Gomez will be (another venue in Baja) but on a different channel. Televisa, I think. It's one that is available to fewer people in the US than ESPN3.com is.

It hasn't gotten much attention because it doesn't deserve much. It's amazing how far and how fast Angulo's stock has dropped; even here in SoCal.

Ah, it's Televisa that is airing Montiel vs. Perez...and apparently Angulo vs. Gomez will be simulcast on Televisa as well as ESPN360. That is if you trust Boxrec. ESPN's own schedule just has it airing on ESPN3 amd ESPN Deportes.

Eh, both Angulo and Montiel are in soft - but after the FNF finale tonight they're literally the only vaguely notable (or televised) matches this weekend.

I know Montiel and Angulo will KO there opponents. There fighting warm ups. So, after this fight who should they fight next. ( Assuming they win )?
