In a great, Great fight SRR beats Duran. The fight would be contested much like Duran-Leonard I..until the last 5 rounds..when Robinson really tears up Duran in a real dogfight..scoring heavily to the head and the body, maybe even sealing it with a kd in the 14th or 15th.
I think Robinson might stop him late. Spoke about this one a good few times over the years on here and I've always disagreed with those who believe Duran can win it. Cue the 'Montreal Duran' shouts
This one goes into the late rounds, where I think Robinson will prevail, due to Duran being hurt too badly to continue.
The prime Welterweight Ray Robinson ,would punish any version of Duran.Whatever Tommy Hearns could do,Sugar Ray could do faster. As a Welter, Ray Robinson was probably supreme in the modern era. Duran was a great lightweight, but would be handicapped by the much taller Ray Robinson...
agreed but i think he puts on a good performance. much like his battle with hagler he keeps it close but the outcomes is clear: robinson UD
Robinson fights him like Leonard does in the first fight, only beats him up doing it. SRR was THE complete fighter. He had the skills of Leonard and the bad intentions of Hearns at 147. Too much for a Duran two weight classes above his best.
never has it been proven that SRR can punch harder than Hearns. He was fast and he had skills and power, but I don't think he had the leveraged power of Hearns right hand in his right. I don't think Robinson at a weight of 154 stops Duran in 2 rounds the way Hearns does. No way. 4 rounds or 5 on a TKO maybe. That is why the knockout of Duran was so impressive for Hearns. No one could have stopped Duran in that fashion.
