If you could start your career again, what things would you change? Such as the age you turned pro, your trainer, the weight division you fight at and so on. And how do you think those changes would have changed your career up to this point?
Forum dynamics dictate that we will never have too many fighter/trainer/pundit input as for some strange reason most posters are utterly jealous of the aforementioned people, & make there online lives such a misery that they dont post for too long. Its the one thing about forum life I dont get, why you would want to chase the people away who we want to hear from the most as they have the inside info? Its one aspect of forum life that I have never been able to get my head around.
I would have had every fight at light welter,I think my age was right as I developed late an probably still developing even at 25 happy with trainer an promoter would like to have had more fights tho
Well i.would have started at a lower weight.... I should have veen more disciplined in my early days i. Oyld have won the lonsdale outright . It would have made a diffrence as i would have been a bigger puncher and proberly had more speed. Ki sara sara!
I dident get to the pro stage, though a Few of my mates did. I may have stopped drinking, nah, would i **** of. **** i may of even fought at a lighter weight, like welter instead of light heavy
Colin Jones done it right. Had a solid amateur career in his teens - ABA titles and a stint at the Olympic Games in Montreal as a 16 year old. 18 years old - turned professional - with a solid trainer in the late Eddie Thomas - but kept his life long amateur trainer - the late Gareth Bevan with him to keep things grounded. Split training sessions between his old surroundings of the boxing shed and for more serious sparring and pro work - up at Eddie Thomas pro gym. Went the solid tried and tested route of British Commonwealth European Then the ultimate fights - WBC / WBA / IBF - World title fights. Invested his paydays in property, etc. Retired comfortable with his last pro fight at 25 years old - went out at the top with one of his biggest fights - a WBA / IBF World title fight with Texan Don Curry. I respect the way Colin done it. Didnt hang around too long - and never came back. Done what he needed to do - and went out at the top. He probaly would have hanged around for a few more big money fights if he had won the World title. But it didnt happen - so he didnt stick around and grow old in the sport and sink to being a Journeyman fighting at a lower level.
