Calzaghe will no doubt look back on his career with some regret as to all the fights he could of easily made. Pavlik, Dawson, Hopkins rematch were all possible to make at the end of his career and all winnable fights for him. But anyone who believes that fighting Froch at that stage would of garnered a sliver of respect for JC are sorely mistaken. Froch was a nobody until he scored a late stoppage over JT, after being outboxed for the majority of the fight. To be perfectly honest, if Froch won the S6 and goaded HC into coming out of retirement for a superfight, I wouldnt even make him favourite. There's a gulf of class in the difference between them.
i think hed definetly beat Froch no doubt. and dont think he should have fought froch at that time. Jones fight was a farce though
Froch is one tough ******* and i couldnt see Calzaghe comfortably keeping him off him with his slapping style. i think Froch would give away from too many rounds to win but still think he would make it a tough fight for Joe.
Froch would land the more cleaner shots but Calzaghe would have the higher workrate. 7-5 8-4 7-5 Type of decision for Froch.
Fully agree the Jones fight was a farce. It was an "easy" money fight for both men. No one will regard it as a significant win, in fact the best that can be said of it is that Calzaghe beat a top 10 LH. But I can understand JC taking the fight.
i agree with the pavlik fight, not dawson. yeah, most people would of liked calzaghe to finish his career with a fight with pavlik but, it didn't happen. why? because there was a lot more money on the table for the jones fight( calzaghe didn't earn as much money in his career as you'ed think. plus, he went through a divorce, and that swallowed a lot of the money up) than there was for pavlik. he made the right decision for himself. the other problem with the pavlik fight was... the weight. calzaghe a light heavy, and pavlik the middle. do you really believe he'd go up there to fight joe? remember what he said after the second fight with taylor... that he wasn't a super middle. that he couldn't finish him because he was sluggish from the weight. and that his career was going to take place at middle, his natural weight. i know you're going to come back with " but he fought hopkins at 170" yeah, he did. but that's because he thought he was a finished fighter. he took the gamble. didn't come off by a long stretch. he never viewed calzaghe as a finished fighter... so i don't think he would of gone up two divisions to face him. he said he would, but i don't believe him. fighters talk a lot of ****, but when it comes to the crunch they back out and make their excuses. you've seen it happen loads of times. it's even happening with khan and bradley right now. had the fight of come off, he would of embarrassed pavlik more than hopkins did. he made the right choice in getting jones. he wanted the fight for years but jones avoided it. he had the chance to get him in the ring, and he took it. no more needs to be said.
Not sure about that. Kessler trainer back then screamed for Kessler to be harder on Calzaghe. Every time Kessler did that, Kessler was the better man. But Kessler sucked that night, simply not ready. In the Ward fight, it was the same all over - the trainer knew what to do, but Kessler didn't. Froch is a warrior and would have tacking Calzaghe to the edge like he has done to every opponent yet.
If Calzaghe had fought Froch, fans would claimed he was afraid of Pavlik and ducked Hopkins and Jones. When he fought them, fans claim he ducked Froch. If Ward wins the super six, he is and all time great. If Calzaghe had been around and cleaned the division, the 168 was historically the weakest ever......................
"Wipe the floor with him", are you insane? "Way to easy to hit"? How about this, Froch will get his chance to face a reasonable facsimile of Calzaghe when he takes Ward to the other-side and meets Bute.
:rofl:rofl 4 years on and you are still crying into your beer Jan , Calzaghe beat Kessler fair and square but you will go to the grave with a thousand excuses for the loss ,,,,, LET IT GO . as for the original question , at present i would take Froch to beat Joe but a non retired Joe of 4 years back destroys Carl , infact he stops Carl late i reckon .
so if the jones bout only brought in 200k ppv in the usa, what do you think Froch in 2008 would bring in? Do you think froch would be a bigger draw than roy jones jr? We're talking before jones' last 3 losses, Jones had just beaten felix trinidad, whereas froch was the BBBofC champion and had just beaten rybacki. I think a big indicator of how much of a big draw carl froch was in the UK is the fact that his fight against jermain taylor wasnt even shown live!!! It was broadcast the following sunday on ITV. A boxer today comparable to carl froch's status in 2007/2008 is darren barker, about the same age/record/ranking and a british title holder. You say the calzaghe vs jones fight struggled in the UK, do you mean in tems of PPV sales? Because the fight wasnt PPV it was on the subscription channel Setanta.
