Why is Chagaev such a big underdog vs Povetkin?

I don't get it...sure he lost to Waldo but this is Waldo we're talking about here!

Povetkin hasn't had a meaningful fight in years meanwhile we simply do not know where he is at mentally or physically. Chagaev beat Valuev too and is a pretty decent inside fighter whereas all indications are Povetkin has slowed.

I'm not saying Chagaev will win - far from it....but the odds against him are just plain silly.

people are judging him on his performance against walker which is really silly...but then again his hep b could be at fault for his decline...thats prob why hes such a huge underdog

I see it as an easy win for Povetkin. Chagaev cant fight on the outside and Alexander's combinations will eat him up inside. Pvetkin TKO round 4.......

well obviously it could be..but i think its more to do with the fact chagaev does the bare minimum in fights to win and never looks spectacular in the 1st place..and tbh if he really was past it and done.meehan would have beat him..and walker would have def knocked him out i mean did u see the size of that ring ?? it was made for guys like walker to hunt down and land his bombs..which he did to no avail..he was still able to outbox him in that little **** box

Povetkin has a very high workrate and Chagaev despite being the way more skilled fighter has a low punch output and its on a Sauerland card..:hey I suspect Chag wins it close but clear only to get conned
He won pretty much all rounds against SNV and all he got was a MD
I might still put some small money on Chag because of the good odds..

I see it going either way. 60-40 Povetkin. The odds people give it are terrible though

Not so sure about way more skilled but more seasoned/experienced...yes. Povetkin is pretty talented and has a pretty extensive amateur background.

If Chagaev fights a more energetic fight than usual I think his superior skill and somewhat underrated power could help him chop up Povetkin and win a decision. But that's a big if since the guy downright refuses to punch sometimes. He's baffled me against skelton, walker, and meehan by not punching when he could have probably ended all three fights inside the distance. The guy makes things too hard on himself.

I don't understand why Povetkin is the favorite either. The bookies know something we don't; that's for sure.

I think the fights a toss up

Povetkin hasnt fought anybody good since chambers and that was 3 yrs ago

since earning his contention and the whole mandatory status for the ibf saga his career changed

he came up in his first 12 or 15 facing byrd chambers donald friday all very good fighters for an early pro his rise was like shumenov but he didnt challenge for a title he was in contention for

chag got a great upset over nikolai valuev and his career hit the **** 2 defenses vs 2 guys who werent really deserving in skelton and drummond in fights that jsut werent ineteresting

hep kept chag out of a rematch for his belt against nikolai and then again when haye ducked him (not implying chag would have won)

hep also cancelled a great unification between him and iggy which would have been a great fight

chag recently was bad in his last outing but he dominated and kicked the **** out of meehan landing his left and cornering him and landing flush

differences chag wants to sit back move counter and get a decision, povetkin is a bull who is aggressive and goes to get a KO

Chambers hit povetkin over and over early with his straight righ t and povetkins eye got puffy

chag may be able to sneak in his straight left who knows

I think you're over-rating both Meehan and Walker, a prime Chagaev would have beaten them with ease rather than struggled with them...
