    If Burns was to fight...

    Fana in November 2011
    Broner in March 2012
    Mitchell in July 2012

How would you rank him as an all time british fighter?

If he won all those 3 he would certainly be up there with Khan and Froch. To be all time he has to clean up sfw and beat the best at lw which is JMM. That would give him some major accolades...

Realistically Burns has some way to go before he'd be considered for a top 30 place, not that it's anything to be ashamed of when you consider some of the fighters we have had.

There's plenty of fighters that haven't won titles that I'd rank ahead of him, there's a difference between losing to Mike McCallum, Kalambay by split decision and beating a Roman Martinez for a belt.

In terms of recent fighters that are ahead....

    Lewis
    Calzaghe
    Froch
    Hatton
    Khan
    Haye (for now)
    Reid

If Burns were to clean up 130, which he's capable of doing subject to Gamboa and Lopez not moving up, before going to 135 and beating a couple of top fighters he could go past Haye and Reid. Khan and Froch are way ahead realistically and will only add to their credentials in the next couple of years.

In fact I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that they're very close to going past Hatton in terms of achievements.

All joking aside that really should be the route you guys should take as from the boxers I listed they are probably the weakest at the moment.

Does this mean that you are looking to move up in the near future then? Or am I reading to much into this.

Could get interesting soon. But as of this moment it sucks. You know a division sucks when Burns v Fana can be made for the ring magazine belt

I am a real fan of Ricky Burns and I have never in my life heard Ricky Burn talk the way Billy Nelson talks I think billy has lost the plot Ricky is a true gent and imo beat fana as he on the road out but I think he a big under-dog against Broner . Billy I think if Ricky moves up to lightweight he will lose against Mitchel and maybe also Murray as he will not allow ricky distants to box so be careful of what you wish for .

  11. Wonder if Ricky gets embarressed when he reads the shite that Nelson spouts on here at times. Much respect as a trainer Billy but I think youre damaging Burns credibility and making people question your own sanity with some of the stuff your posting.

Billy who would you have fancied to win Scott Harrison at his best or Ricky at his best now before I start an argument its only an opinion as I think Scot would have been to strong for Ricky as I also think Scot was well ahead of Alex Arthur who out boxed Ricky Burns however
I believe Ricky would have outboxed Willie Limond so for the record my choice

    Scott Harrison
    Alex Arthur
    Ricky Burns
    Willie Limond
    John Simpson

The one thing for sure we are still producing good wee men

You know for going up in weight and winning a title at lightweight against one of the all time great's in JMM, a complete animal and for me the best lightweight in Rios. What the ****ing hell are you doing fighting Layera the pygmy and a washed up Nicky Cook at a weight lower? Let s stop beating around the bush here, when is Ricky Burns the fastest strongest biggest super featherweight going to finally fight a live opponent? It'll be over a year now (his next fight since winning the belt) and we're yet to have a competetive fight. Lets have a challenege if we could
