The SMW division is stronger than it has ever been. Will the best fight the best?

IDK. Verses Bute the odds are against him and with Stieglitz the odds are with him, gets a belt in either fight. You do the math.

Consider that the previous era had Calzaghe, Lacy and Kessler as 3 undefeated champs and then 3 time WBC champ Beyer.
The S6 has fooled many people, at the end of the S6, Ward is going to be fighting Froch who Kessler beat when unwell, who couldnt beat the previous eras top man. Kessler has beaten Froch so it is hard to except Froch being above Kessler.
Remember also that Andrade beat world champ Steiglitz and Andrade was taken out by the previous era Kessler

Previously we had Toney, Eubank and Benn or later had - Jones, Eubank and Benn You have also had - Nunn, Barkley, Eubank, Benn together

    All much stronger eras.

The S6 has created a buzz that has fooled people like the TS but in truth the last fight is Ward vs Froch who lost to a fighter that dropped out already

After Kessler disposes of Stieglitz he is in prime position to finish his career off strong with matches against Bute, rematch with Ward and maybe Froch one more time if Froch can beat Ward. sets up an epic battle for the top.

you're only saying it's strong because there's an american doing quite well in there. lets take a look shall we?

abraham: good solid fighter, but unproven at the weight. his only win is taylor, who was coming in having been knocked out by froch.

dirrell: beaten by froch. took an early shower against abraham with his amateur dramatics.

taylor: knocked out twice. has a win over a shot to pieces lacy.

kessler: was beaten by calzaghe. robbed by mr headbutt. beaten froch.

ward: cheated kessler. erm... that's it.

froch: has the best resume by a long stretch.

bute: few decent wins but that's about it. it's all hype at the moment for him. we should know more after the johnson fight.

when you compare it to calzaghe's era of 97/07 it doesn't match up well. :deal

whats great about this as well is that it potentially coud all unravel without PPV. depending on how showtime chooses to go at it but we could have some legendary fights without ppv.

The best fighters mentioned were just passing through a garbage division with no prestige because of weight problems. Others you are severely over rating.

I think its easiest the strongest now than it has ever been (as well as the strongest in boxing right now) due to the fact that it is a real division now and it is solidified. it was in its infancy stages in the 90's and its starting to have some real cache now.

If "the best fight the best" with a couple of collaterals in the midst of it, we might see the 2012-13 SMW's as the strongest in history. One Dirrell will be coming back, the other one wants to step it up, Kid Chocolate will be very interesting to follow, DeGale will make some noise in the next 2 years or so... Froch will not be retired by mid-2012 I don't think, Kessler might retire if he loses his WBO belt (!!) to either the S6 winner or Bute but that's not on the short term.

Pop this thread back up same time next year.

Thats why Jones was at SMW longer than he was MW
Toney longer at SMW than MW or LHW
Nunn longer at SMW than MW or LHW

Robert, you really dont have a clue :patsch

I think it's at least as strong as when Eubank and Co. ruled. Difference is that the best fights the best now which they didnt back then. Earlier it was also a transit division for MW's on their way up.

And we have 3 great fights coming up. Good times.

If Ward wins the S6 we'll never see Bute vs Ward. If Froch wins, Bute will unify because Froch aint no coward.

I think Kessler will take his asskicking from Bute once he gets the belt from Steiglitz and has 50/50 bargaining power with Bute.

Froch would probably take 40% in a Bute fight just because he aint afraid to fight the best. Ward wouldn't accept 99% because he knows Bute would shatter his glass sternum, solarplexus, kidney, liver, jaw, cranium, or whichever glass body part Bute finds on Ward first.

Bute will unify one way or another, but it's all about who wins the S6, and when Kessler can get a bigger career ending payday.:deal:deal:deal

The last era they all fought Calzaghe fought Lacy and Kessler and Kessler fought Beyer also.
Eubank and Benn fought and Jones and Toney fought.
I admit the S6 does make these guys fight and we are getting many good fights but the division isnt as strong.
Consider G Johnson was never able to be a top 10 SMW when he tried to compete in the division years ago and was beaten by Branco, Ottke, Sheika to name a few, yet is now a top 10 SMW for a win over A Green and a loss.

The TS is saying this as Ward is doing well and if Ward beats Froch, Ward can call himself the top SMW, but if Ward losses he wont think its as good.
You could have said the same thing when Lacy was undefeated
