i agree, and he was past his prime when those fighters did the "standing up to him" he had a very short prime for a great fighter
When Tyson was in is prime knocking guys out for fun Lennox was at the Olympics.Their primes were at different stages even though they are roughly the same age. No version of Lennox would have whooped the Kevin Rooney trained Tyson.
I dislike him a great deal for his behavior while he was active and the bad rap he often gave the sport but I think I have an objective opinion of his skills and I sincerely hope the man really has found the peace he's been searching for in his life.
Tyson made a lot of mistakes in his life, and just to name a few were the Ear bite, talking about Teddy Atlas' niece sexualy (or whatever it was) , Threatening to eat peoples children, and telling people he would **** them till they loved him. Also there may or may not have been a sexual assult in his past. Thats quite a bit, though mostly when it comes to him as a fighter his biggest flaw was that his prime was early, and he declined since he was about 26. All this said, I've got to say I believe Tyson had some serious mental issues. I believe these problems included something called Fedal alchohol syndrome, which makes it difficult to make good choices or to say no to other people. He spiraled out of control when Cus died as well. He (like most with F.A.S) had to have structure and constant supervision. Cus gave this to him (even had him live in his house for a while). Everyone else who managed or even trained Mike just used him up and spit him out. I honestly think Tyson should have been a preacher or a social worker or something instead of boxing. Its a difficult sport that makes you scared, and forces you to do bad things. This kind of life, Tyson was not menatly suitable for (nor certainly is anyone else with mental problems like his). As far as his career goes: He was one of the best heavyweights of all time in terms of pure talent and head to head ideas. HE did NOT achieve everything he could have if he had the proper people around him, but he did achieve more than most EVER will in the sport of boxing. My favorate quote from any boxer is also Tyson's. "One Pope, One President, One World Champion" Wish to god there were more people like Tyson in the world, just not in a sport like this. Sounds weird right? But I honestly think Mike was a great person, who just had the wrong people around him. I wish him nothing but the best in life, and would like nothing more than to hear that the final scene of his life was Mike and some woman who loved him very much dying in bed together with smiles on their faces. In short: God bless You Mr. Tyson. I Hope you stay as far away from boxing rings as possible, and find true happiness in something happier.
I wasn't around in the Ali days, but I don't think any boxer has drawn the people's attention like Tyson. He singlehandedly made PPV the scam it is today. I don't have him at the top of my ATG list but there is no fighter since, or before, I would rather see in his prime. When Tyson came out in his black boots with no socks and a simple towel as a robe, you knew the other fighter was in trouble. Prime Iron Mike was all business in the ring. It's too bad D'amato died when he did. Cus was the probably the only person who kept Mike in check. A disciplined Tyson was a beast.
I just don't buy that an all time great boxer only has a peak period of two to three years. More likely, it's that he just didn't match up against the right opponents in the "golden" era.
you don't buy that some fighters decline more rapidly then others??? In that case everyone should be George Foreman, Bernard Hopkins, and Archie Moore. Gimme a break.
i totally agree with waht u just said...... They too busy on youtube watching tyson/danny williams........lol......and calling guys like pinklon thomas a bumb/
Being a great fighter isn't just about the physical attributes and mystique you hold over other fighters. Tyson has the shortest prime of any fighter not named Gerald McLellan and for a completely different reason to McLellan. Everyone can point to a million reasons why Tyson was so ineffective following Cus D'Amatos death but almost every fighter has a similar story, the only difference is they were able to maintain their control over a division for longer. Tyson in my view, never beat a true heavyweight who happened to be in their prime. When he intimidated everyone and beat them before the bell, he looked great - but the moment that mystique faded, he looked average. Roy Jones Jr is a fighter who used physical mastery over other fighters to his advantage, even he sustained it for 10 years, rather than 2. Tyson is not an ATG. He's like Mohammad Ali, a product of hype and nostalgia due to the high levels of social circumstance surrounding him. The only difference is Mohammad Ali had some seriously competitive battles in his era, Tyson lost any competitive fight he was in.
I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING U SAID.........EXCEPT FOR TYSON MAY BEAT THEM ALL.............TYSON WOULD NEVER BEAT ALI NOR A YOUNG FOREMAN/..............THE REST I AGREE WITH WHAT U SAY:good:good
