I'm not saying his style wasn't Peruvian or anything though. He defintily had Peruvin samba elements in his style.
See page before, I've edited to give him the correct nationality, which of course I am well aware of, thanks for pointing out my error :thumbsup
Here's Villaflor defending his title: heavy hands. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOOdGlwyPD0[/ame]
The first Lopez fight and the Kim fight were Gomez's best performances. Ray Robinson himself couldn't have done it better.
Yeah, that one, too. I prefer the other two, but only just, because he pulled off so many moves in those fights that just left me scratching my head. They're among my favourite clinics, period. Against Davila he boxed pretty much perfectly, but was less spectacular.
He was a pretty awe-inspiring fighter.....though lucky there was a 122lb weight class, one fighter that really looked different 4lbs above....though that may have been to focus as well of course, as he looked less than terrifc back at 122 post-Sanchez. Exciting, but no longr seamless.
Lads a good one for you to do would be Dave ''Boy'' Mccauley. A very much forgotten fighter but a very good one. He was involved in some terrific fights and he had some good wins on his record. His two fights with Fidel Bassa are forgotten classics. Id do it myself, but I cant be arsed
I've seen all of his filmed fights (at least that I'm aware of) and I can say with certainty that he started to fall off post-Zarate. It seemed like that was the time where the words of the press truly started to sink in and poison his mind in regards to his punching power. The truth is, he was never an especially big puncher, he was just one of the best at punch-picking. He knew how to break a man down with the best of them. He started to leave his skills behind and opt for more of a stalking, power-punching approach. Combine this newfound mindset with the fact that he was moving up in weight to face a bigger, stronger, iron chinned opponent who hit every bit as hard, and you had a recipe for disaster.
Read the line you quoted Rasta. It had been said that he had been accused of doing so before, never once said myself that he did.
Looking forward to El Bujia pulling apart some of my entries :-( this guys knowledge is intimidating :deal Hey, Pea; you're no British stalwart, but if you get the chance, sure the lads on here would love to read an entry by yourself :good
I might just do that. Some of those summaries are ripped right from Wikipedia. I've enjoyed the bits I've read of yours, though. A few others have been quite good, too.
