what credit do you think he deserves?

most people recognise him amongst the 40 or so greatest fighters in history.

Yesterday, in the 'What is Miguel Cotto's greatesy victory' thread, Bladegunner, supporting a Victor Ortiz avatar to illustrate his legitimacy as a Floyd Mayweather opponent, remarks...

...suggesting a prime Cotto never deserved a shot at Floyd Mayweather.

But now, a past-prime Cotto, does deserve a shot? Why the change of tune, Bladegunner?

This is a good question, damn... it's hard to pick. You could make a case for either guy.

Where did I say cotto never deserved a shot at floyd?:patsch

Me believing cotto would get schooled by floyd doesn't mean cotto doesn't deserve a shot.

Baldomir, mosley, hatton, ortiz all deserved shots at floyd. Don't mean anyone of them had a realistic chance of winning dummy:deal

They’re a funny bunch, some of these Floyd fans. For them, the validity of an opponent isn’t determined by quality, experience, skill, etc. Instead, it’s determined by the level of threat they are to Floyd.

A high-in-demand, undefeated, extremely talented, well-poised and well-styled fighter like Cotto..........will be a man who doesn’t really deserve a shot at Floyd.

But an inexperienced, limited in skill, stylistically deficient Ortiz who will barely even win 4 rounds of the fight.........is a young, hungry lion that’s a legit threat.

And now, that same Cotto who didn't a deserve a shot before, has now suddenly become an interesting opponent after going through career-dwindling fights against Margarito, Pacquiao and Margarito once more.:patsch

Don't pull that **** with me, brah. Only yesterday you were mocking Cotto by saying....

....meaning he was never in a position to demand a fight with Floyd Mayweather, because he was never good enough. That's what you meant. Don't try and squirm out of it now.

It will be interesting to see where berto goes on from here, because if he is able to beat some solid opponents in the future ortiz may have taken a big scalp.
