just rewatched Oleg sending Rahman trough the ropes and cant keep but wondering. how good would have he been if not for terrible managing.:-(
not the managing bro dude had heart but no chin that was his downfall edit i heard somewhere that he beat vitali in the amateurs nuff said
he was a great fighter good boxer big heart good right but he fought a lot of punchers and suffered the fate of guys who fight some of the best punchers of his era his rahman upset in bout 2 was great i wish i bet on it he was a decent underdog but i didnt buy it cuz of the irst bout
Maskaev was a better than good HW, with tons of heart, but his downfall was his defense. I don't know that his chin was bad so much as he left it hanging in the air at the wrong times. Also, he was not a big HW. I walked past him outside Gleason's gym a few years back. Boxr*c has him listed at 6'3", but he looked closer to 6'1".
What I would like to know is was the Maskaev vs McCall fight fixed? Oleg Had only 6 pro fights, but they gave his record as 16-0-0 with 12 knockouts before the match..............What gives????
He supposedly made Vitali quit after a couple of rounds when they went at it in the Russian Army. Not sure if this is true or not, but if it is, thats pretty damn good. And was it a thing of beauty when he cracked Rahman through the ropes or what? Something I'll never forget. I liked Oleg. It was bad news to see him get brutalized late in his career. :-(
He would've been a decent ABC titlist had it not been for his chinniness. Other that that he was still a SOLID Bclass fighter from 95-05.
Oleg, Back in the day late 90s (I aint that ****ing old but still) We had current heavys E Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, M Tyson and some pretty good contendors in the top ten... However when you spoke of the up and comming promising fighters you had this to hear.. Michael Grant Ike Ibeabuchi W klitschko V Klitschko D Tua (WTLD) and you also had Oleg Maskaev These where the guys people were talking about comming up.... and the future looked so hopeful I do not know what the **** happend. But Oleg you just tuned in he was a strong solid guy who usually wear you down and put you to sleep. I always thought back when he fought and knocked Rahman out of the ring that some how a fight between Golota and Maskaev would have been an all out mother~russian blood fest.....
I agree with that. Oleg was good & powerful but he was a bit slow & his defense was lacking more than his chin.
