Is Froch starting to get inside Ward's head just a little bit ?

Too much emphasis is placed on psychology. Ward is a capable, undefeated fighter. He’s also got a simple trump – he beat Kessler, Froch struggled mightily with him. If anything, it’s Froch who gets nervous before fights.

I don’t think either man is intimidated by the other. If Ward wins it’s because he’s a more rounded, smarter fighter. If Froch wins it’s because he imposes his will on the younger man.

Frochs doing the right thing, but ultimately i cant see Ward letting the mind-games get to him too much.

He'll be as focused as ever come fight night, but he may also give Froch an extra headbutt for good measure.

Still think it will be Ward by UD, but im rooting for Froch all the same.

I agree. Every presser these days seems to get over analysed for psychological clues when 99% if it is just boxers giving quotes to the press to sell the fight.

    Agree with both of you.

It's not often a fighter loses his bottle at a press conference, or at the weigh-in. That's definitely not the case here either.

I'd say it only really happens when one man is completely spooked by the other or the occasion, even then it's only in the ring when it's finally real that it all comes out.

The hairstyle for the ring walk is usually a give away.

Over at the scene Ward is complaining about being 'bumped' by Froch after the staredown (you can see it on one of the videos in the build-up thread). Hopefully Carl comes up with something slightly more meaningful in the rest of his mind-games:rofl

Same article has Ward saying he 'believes that the Super Six middleweight tournament has been "catered to the Europeans" from the beginning'. Still stunned by that little piece of hypocrisy:patsch

I didn't say press conference quotes to sell a fight couldn't be bollocks statements as well. Just that we just shouldn't get too Fruedian when analyzing them.

I know WHY Hearn made that "50/50" comment, that doesn't mean it wasn't nonsense.

I get it. Hearn is flavour of the month at the mo, it'll settle down . Now let it go....;)

Ward is weird. He spent a whole interview with The Ring complaining about not getting respect.

    http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/168331-ward-i-dont-feel-that-im-getting-my-just-do-or-respect

    And...

    And finally...

WARNING: I cut some sections out, but you can read them on the original article. The context is the same. Anyway, other than the last one and its appalling, leading question (new Ring scribe Lem Satterfield is in the mould of their appalling online editor, Michael Rosenthal), Ward really has a chip on his shoulder.

He doesn't seem to see the advantage he's been given by his promoter, despite talking about it before the tournament began!

I don;t even see where he hasn't had his "due" - I think he's been given beyond it considering what's he's actually done in the sport.
