the bits I highlighted are, of course, entirely subjectve (although I agree).

could you elaborate on Liston having a better reign?

    Liston????

Liston was a genuine great fighter in 1960 and scored unique wins against a frozen floyd but one good year and 2 one round blow outs against a champion who did not want to fight him is not much of a resume. thats not to mention how he lost the title..

Dempsey????? A guy that only fought his #1 contender once and got utterly thrashed and ducked two of the best contenders of his era????

Holyfield???? A steroid cheat who went 6-3 during his HW peak???

Why the high Holyfield rating, out of interest, what's your thinking? That's about as high as i've seen him.

    :huh

Holy was past-prime from '94 (Moorer I) onwards thanks to the collapsed left ventricle of the heart he suffered, plus wear & tear, & ageing. I think this is obvious from watching him fight. Anyway, despite his severe heart problem & torn left shoulder, i still think he deserved the nod against Moorer, in their close & controversially scored affair.

I believe Holy was at his HW Peak from '90 Buster to '93 Bowe II, & this is clear by viewing footage of his fights.

so what happened to sonny boy when he defended against his only #1 contender? Not sure liston did very well, remind me?

Are you still being coy about how you rate them yourself, I take it you have it Liston, frazier, holyfeild then dempsey?

I agree for the most part, but would add the Dokes fight. Really liked Holyin that one.

We're both critical of Liston, but I honestly flip him with Dempsey at #3. Otherwise, I think you got things right.

Either you've changed a lot, or you appreciation for the "classic" has risen. Maybe it goes with your schtick still. You're the contrarian skeptic, and since nearly everyone is against Dempsey (In ranking, especially lately) than he must be underrated or wrongly rated. The elites here rank Liston higher than the norm, so he must be the worse. Frazier & Holyfield are the least controversial of the bunch so they're stuck in the middle of the pack. Have I got it right? Tell me if I'm over-analyzing and this is purely coincidental.

    *Edit*

I swear I didn't see this by the time of my post. Appears I was right. Funny to see luf notice, too.

Anyone who ranks Liston the highest is an absolute loon unless scowls and intimidation is a part of their criteria.

He lost - to the greatest HW in history. Nice use of the rhetorical question though, very cutting.

When you write about Sonny, it is like he ****ed your wife. You frame everything in the worst possible terms. Anyone can do that, as I demonstrated. You rank a drugs cheat and a coward above Liston, who is a qutter that got lucky against his own coward - if you're consistent, which you aren't.

I consider them absolutely intechangeable, with the exception of Dempsey, who should be last.

I like Sonny quite a bit but that version of Clay was hardly the greatest heavyweight ever. I would pick him to be beaten by quite a few other heavies at their bests.
