Hmm tough choice. Bowe had the overall better toolset. But Lewis was the much smarter fighter. Bowes defence is a tad leaky and i dont fancy picking him against a Lewis overhand right. Then again, Lewis also was a sucker for overhand rights and we all know how hard Bowe hit. This fight is all about will, who can impose his will on the other fighter. Will Lewis make it an outside fight and box cautiosly, or could Bowe turn it into a brawl? Im gonna sit on the fences for this one
No Bowe had plenty of problems with Biggs, lost to Tubbs and got owned by Golota. Stop crying about Bowe being B Class and Lewis being A Class :yep Golota>Prime Bowe
The funny thing is Emanuel Steward says Bowe couldnt beat Lewis, but he was able to train a one dimensional circus clown to smash him into the canvas. People massively underrate Bowe's skills. Your entitled to your opinion and a lot of people feel the same way, I just think peak Bowe was a lot better than peak Lewis.
If thats the case than Lewis was owned by Klitschko Bruno and Mercer and had plenty of problems with Briggs, not to mention he was flattened by Mcall and Rahman. :hi:
If the fight stays on the outside, Lewis wins. If Bowe gets inside Lewis' reach and lands enough body shots, he wins. I think 7 times out of 10, Lewis would beat Bowe. There's a reason why Bowe didn't want any part of Lewis in the pros. He knew it would probably be a repeat of the gold medal match, just nine rounds longer.
The problem is if Lewis dictates the fight is fought on the outside he wins. If Bowe manages to make it a brawl its close. I would say that by the time Bowe can turn it into a brawl Lewis has enough points in the bank to affordably loose half of the remaining rounds.
Bowe does not have the speed or footwork and Lewis does. Bowe had great condition, power, toughness, and heart, but style wise this is not a good matchup for him, as proven by their Olympic bout. There is good reason why Rock Newman wanted no part of this match.
I seriously thinks a 92 or 93 Lewis has the potential of starching Bowe from the same era early ala Ruddock. Bowe's defense was shabby at best, and quite lazy during all phases of this fights. As for Bowe's infighting, Lewis was much stronger and much better conditioned, and would have clinched and mauled in a way Holyfield was simply to weak, small and stubbornly offensive to accomplish. I think Lewis KO's him regardless, but I would bet money it happens inside of 3.
