I'd like to add that Durelle gave Archie high praise and raved about his boxing skills. Can't say who's got the biggest heart, but Moore who was dangerously close to getting stopped, but got up against Durelle and beat him is a very good example of this thread.

Frazier getting up six times after being clobbered by Foreman and trying to find his legs doesn't say enough about his heart and toughness. Who else would get up that many times, besides maybe Floyd Patterson against Ingo.

 

I am reminded of the story of Michael Spinks, waiting in his dressing room minutes before taking that long ring walk to face his fiercest foe to date, Dwight Qawi.

The biggest fight of his life, certainly, and one every fighter dreams of one day participating in; facing a lion of a man in a world title unification bout.

It had been difficult for Spinks to focus on his training the last few weeks, however. His common-law wife had died tragically in an auto accident, leaving Spinks with their daughter, just a toddler, to care for now by himself.

Minutes before he was to walk to the ring, his daughter was brought in by one of his family members to give her daddy a kiss good luck........she looked up and him and innocently asked "where's mommy?"

Spinks broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. He gathered himself eventually and went in to face the beast that was Qawi. We know the rest............

Mark Kaylor was knocked down four or five times within a single round by Buster Drayton - and,unlike Frazier,he never had the benefit of a standing eight count for any of the knockdowns.Also,for what it's worth,he never turned his back and attempted to run away from his opponent like Frazier did against Foreman,either.

Ali was never gonna quit, anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional. If you listen in between rounds fighters end up saying all sorts of things, the occasions where Ali said that. Notably in Liston 1 and Frazier 3, he wasnt ever gonna quit and knew dundee wouldn't take such talk seriously when he was on the verge of victory in both fights

 

Sugar Ray Robinson was such a graceful, nonpareil fighter, he doesn't get enough credit for his grit.

 

Uh, this guy fought mostly in Britain. Tell me a big name opponent he fought? Mostly for European championships right?

Again, who else would get up three times in the first and three times in the second against who is universally regarded as the one of the top 3 hardest punching heavyweights of all time?

We know you hate Frazier, but it's almost getting comical to me.:good

BTW, Frazier didn't need 8 seconds because he got up right away, somewhat foolishly after every knockdown instead of trying to clear his head.

 

Tommy Collins definitely deserves a shout-out. When he was butchered by Jimmy Carter for the lightweight title, he was left for dead NINE times, but miraculously rose 'n tore into Carter, throwin' bombs.

The ref should've been jailed for attempted murder.
