i see what you mean by sweet pea

    but about toney
    this is gonna sound werid
but i think as technical fighter he is OVER RATED.

yes he was great at shoulder rolls, philly shill etc

but man thats almost all he ever did.

mostly stand on one stop, slip, roll, duck, block shots
while ofcourse its preety what he did,

    he didnt do much else,

not all that much footwork, did not use other times of guards
didnt throw many text book straight punches,

and and i think he got hit more then people realize

get over the **** talking etc, and you will see that
    he gets tagged quite often
    and has little footwork

Pressure fighters never get the love they deserve for their technical prowess when they have it. Mainly because they get hit more often than someone who fights defensively. But it depends on the fighter though. There are pressure fighters who are skilled and there are "runners" that have no substance and vice versa. But yeah, in general pressure fighters get a bum rap. This the era of the volume puncher though.

Out of curiousity though, which "runner" that only jabs, jabs, right hands, and clinchs are you talkin about?

    here is an example

    ali vs frazier

ali moving around throwing the same jab jab jab right hand, then run away or clinch/illegally holding the head

while frazier is cutting off the ring
    slipping, ducking.blocking etc
making ali miss 90 percent of his shots

then working the body, with various shots and angles

then ali goes to doing the same crap again and again....

    guess many people watching
will say frazier is a brawler with a big heart

and ali is a being a wonderful boxer

    what the fcuk lol

    Ali wasn't very good defensively.

His reflexes, footwork and the speed of his own attack makes him look like it though

If you can avoid being hit, you are good defensively. Getting a bad stylistic matchup in a fight that has you tagged repeatedly past your prime doesn't mean you weren't good defensively.

i am not talking about if ali was good defensively or not

he was good at some things and good at others

like he was great at seeing shots and leaning out of them

    thats defense too

what i was talking about was

    what the fan watching thinks
