I agree with that, even though I'm not all that big on Oscar. At 140 he was the dogs.

We need slip to enter this thread, he's always got some interesting views, in particularly about the American scene in the late 80's.

Tell you one class fantasy fight..... Taylor vs Mosley at 140 :nut:shock:

Chavez eats Oscar up at 135 in the mid-90s.

    (IMHO!)

I agree and would file Laguna under the same statement.

Darren Barker would beat Chavez Jr and have a good chance vs Gennady Golovkin.

I dont know if this is controversial, but ignoring huge weight advantages in boxing is the height of stupidity. I saw a thread on classic a while back where a matchup between riddick bowe and Rocky Marciano was discussed, and a couple of posters were giving Marciano a decent chance of winning.

    I agree.

It's kinda odd though, they'll then scoff at a potential fight between (say) a welter and a light middle and say it's unfair.

Bowe would absolutely murder Marciano, ffs

A big skilled fighter like Bowe would be a solid fave over Marciano, as good as he was, but I'd back a top class welter over a mediocre/decent light middle all day long, regardless of the agreed weight.

I know what you mean, I would almost always pick the smaller more skilled man over the bigger man in a matchup. However sometimes in otherwise even matches, a size advantage could be the tie breaker that would tell you who would win.

I suppose this is directed more at the heavyweight division and some of the ridiculous matchups that are called there. And then these matchups are supposedly justified by saying that these older smaller fighters would be bigger using modern ''nutrition and training,'' which is something I just dont buy.

Yeah, I'd pick a skilled 190-200lb heavy over some big oaf with no skills.

When people are picking these guys against the likes of Bowe you've got to laugh. If Bowe had a shaky chin and the opponent was a banger then.... ok (maybe) but Bowe was as durable as anyone around, apart from McCall obviously and perhaps Holyfield.

There's a difference between saying someone is better and saying X would beat Y.
