I have no problem with Holy fighting for this fake belt, but let's not pretend he earned it in any way.
Current Holyfield has is too far shot to beat (or even give a good fight to) a reasonable contender. I guess the Williams fight told us enough about where he's standing right now, and beating old man Nielsen after 9 years (!) of inactivity did nothing to erase this.
Not to forget if he really gets to fight the winner of Chag vs Pov it will be 2012 and he'll be 49 already. It will be 3 years after his last really good showing against Valuev.

they'd just make the regular belt available again, as Wlad is super champion. there is no end to this bull****. fans and boxing publications need to stop recognising the WBA as a major belt

No he wasn't... Ibragimov beat Holyfield easily, and it was a 4 years younger Holyfield.

Exactly, & that was before the "Super WBA" heavyweight belt was invented & made the "Regular" version into worthless crapola.

he was robbed against valuev so i dont see this as much of a problem. who knows? he could outrank both hopkins & foreman as the oldest champ in history. povetkin and chagaev are just worthless bystanders as it is, fighting for such a meaningless paper belt.

Yeah, exactly. I'd give Holyfield a shot - albeit not a great one - of beating either of these guys. While he is FAR past his best, he is a much, much greater fighter.

People use the Valuev fight as some sort of justification for getting a shot now. But didn't Valuev state before hand he had too much respect for Holyfield and didn't want to hurt him? It would explain why he hardly threw a punch and compared to the Lyakhovich fight it's night and day.

Is the idea that this fight would be marketable in Moscow?

Honestly Holyfield is probably more worthy a shot than Rahman, who is next in line.

The fight they ought to be shooting for if Povetkin wins is Boystov. If Chagaev wins, I expect Helenius/Chagaev next.

I read **** like this but when I watch the fight I dont see where you guys get that from, Honestly.... at which point did Sherman hurt Holyfield? ( I am not joking I am serious) I have only seen shots that Williams hit Holyfield with while evander was off balance but nothing that looked like he was rocked or anything..

I disagree Ibragimov beat him but it was not easily, I had it a close fight 115-113. alot of close rounds in that fight
