Jack Dempsey/Ezzard Charles/Archie Moore did.

 

How many welterweights would you pick to stop Antonio Margarito?

 

Not guys as skilled as bowe though, I probably would pick the smaller guy against a lot bigger guy, IF there was a big gulf in class overall, as there was with Willard and Dempsey. but to ignore size in a matchup where there isnt a huge difference in skills would be foolish imo.

I was just watching prime mosley at 147 a few days ago. He was some fighter at the weight, I wouldnt say it was impossible.

Margo clearly had a bad cut that time though. I reckon the thicker set guy that turned up to fight Cotto might've done the distance, but the styles would always favour Shane.

Cuevas/Hearns are the absolute worst matchups for Margarito EVER. It would be amazing to see what they could do with a blank canvas like Margarito, the Zombie who walks forward throwing arm punches and little else

There are other guys as well, like Tony DeMarco, Virgil Akins, Tomas Molinares who would most likely get the job done as well, but I know little of their all-round games to see whether or not they'd actually win, only seen a bit of each.

DeMarco looks like he would though Sets his feet wherever they land and bombs.

I've never looked into DeMarco enough, but he appears to be all-action with much more power than Toni. He would destroy him.

Never seen Fernandez at Welter, so can't judge. But a massive puncher at middle (where Margo would be with same day weigh ins!), had only seen his stoppage of Jose Torres before, but just watched this :good

Yeah, he was clearly a massive hitter. In the pre-fight, they show him club some matey down, he looked dangerous there too.

Margo is there to be hit. Judging by what Molinares did in the Starling fight, he's a wee bit cuter than Toni as well.

 

Tony DeMarco actually might decapitate Margarito, it would be horribly beautiful IMO.

 

Aye, I watched everything available of him on the tube (think I've only watched his fight with Akins before) in the last few hours, and he was a beastly puncher.
