- Is it time to seriously consider Anderson Silva having usurped Fedor Emelianenko as the greatest mixed martial artist ever? - Why did Yushin Okami not make more of an effort to take the fight to the ground? I would've thought Chael Sonnen would've drilled into him the importance of going for single/double leg takedowns relentlessly. A couple of half-hearted attempts to turn a clinch into a takedown then standing with Silva for the remainder of the fight was not the strategy I expected from Okami. Then again, the Spider looked supernatural tonight. I seriously doubt anything he could've done would've made any difference. - I'm also starting to doubt that Anderson Silva is in decline after all. I mean, logic tells me he is, as he is 36 and a striker who relies on speed and reflexes really shouldn't still look so sharp and explosive at 36. I have thought Silva was in a gradual decline for some time now, but now I'm reassessing this. I think he looked sensational, in pretty much every way this evening. He definitely looks even more powerful than he did a few years back, his punching power was insane! - I can't really think of any other salient points, so will just finish with WOW. I expected a closer, tougher fight, although I tipped Silva to win by KO (in round 4). Anderson is in my opinion the UNDISPUTED pound-for-pound number 1. Amazing, amazing performance. :admin
Anderson has passed Fedor Some people will just never admit it They'll be ranting for the next 50 years about how Fedor could destroy the beasts that evolve in this sport until the day they die
No no way. The best they currently have in the UFC. (based on quality opposition) is GSP. When a guy is able to stand in the middle of the ring with his hands down to his waist , without having to worry about any reactions from his opponents ?.... It's not about his talent anymore. It's just bull**** competition. The only guy who had the guts to recently give him a solid fight was Sonnen. Maybe it was the roids ? Maybe he's not scared to lose ? who knows... But at least he wasn't standing like a dumb ass , letting anderson pulling his usual antics. In the UFC , GSP is their best. (if you look at his competition). Penn is another very solid one , and so is Frankie Edgard (but he's rather boring imo). When Anderson was in his prime , he couldn't grab the belt in japan. (he lost twice over there). Today , at 36 or 37 years old , he's having the easiest time of his life. He's a great fighter though.
You'd have a point if he would've never had lost against the likes of Takase and Chonan in his prime. If Anderson would've been as consistent as he is today , only back in the day ? (Pride champ + ufc champ)...Then yeah , he wouldn't be just better than Fedor , he'd be the most consistant fighter in mma history. That being said...Fedor himself , is not the best fighter in mma history. Who is ? Can you say the same in boxing ? Can you say that Muhammad Ali was truely "the" best ever ? I can't. The most popular one (and controversial one) but based on his entire competition ? Nah... He's a boxing legend , but personally , i can't say this or that fighter is "the" best ever at this point. Not in mma , or K1 or boxing.
Bwahahahahahahahaha atsch:rofl , Anyway in answer to the op, Silva passed Fedor two years ago even before Fedor started to get his ass beat, but his nut huggers just couldn't accept it, now it's not even in doubt, Silva IS THE GOAT, fullstop.
Fine , it's called an opinion. If you can't accept different views from yours (if you have preconceived views) , then don't bother asking questions. Or don't add a " ? "...a question mark....at the end of your sentence. By doing so , you give the impression that you're actually asking a question. But in reality , you're only looking for a confirmation of your personal opinion.
I don't think you get it. I'm not even concerned about him passing fedor at this point. I'm just pointing the fact that based on his competition...The best in the UFC is GSP. It seems that some of you think ... i'm here , protecting or defending fedor , because i recently created a thread about the bull**** stoppage of the Hendo fight. (even though i predicted fedor to lose against Antonio Silva) and i have no problems with his other loss with Werdum.
anderson silva looked like he was fighting a child tonight! Okami got clowned big time.. Silva is a GREAT fighter.. I would really like to see him fight sonnen again!
Same here. I'd like to see him fight someone who'll actually try something...who'll be constantly on the offensive. Like Sonnen. But it's rare. Having said that , i don't think Sonnen deserves a rematch. Because what he did with the roids is unacceptable.
Fedor, as great as he was, can't maintain his dominant level past the age of 34 like Silva. Therefore you have to stand back and admire what Silva is doing at his age. I'm fine with calling it a tie between Silva and Fedor as GOAT. But I'd like to give it to Silva since he possesses a bigger toolbox of skills. Nice win over Okami. But I'm not satisfied until Silva dominates Sonnen and silences the critics who believe Sonnen discovered kryptonite. Let's see what happens when Sonnen isn't juiced up and Silva is at 100% Even if Sonnen loses the rematch but puts up an amazing performance by taking Silva to the limit again, I will gladly give Chael the credit he deserves. But at this point I don't believe his last performance against Silva is legit.
No YOU don't get it, how the feck can a man who's been beaten in the UFC (gsp) be better than a man who hasn't lost in the UFC and has even gone UP IN WEIGHT too? atsch plus many of Gsp's victories of late have been rematches, catch a clue man your hate is too obvious.
Well he was on roids....Dana banned other fighters for being on some illegal substance. Why do an exception for Sonnen ? As dominant as he was , is it really a good idea to give him a rematch ?....knowing what he did the last time ? Why give him another chance ? .... It seems that ufc's strict rules aren't applied to everyone.
