A truely wonderful moment for B-HOP as he stared down at his vanquished doubters & accusers. Ali with his "Don't you ever doubt or ever bet against me again" tirade after beating Foreman. It's a toss up for me with regard to Roberto's incredible performance when tearing Leonards crown away in Montreal & his superhuman effort against Iran Barkley at 37 especially after being spun like a top in the 8th & somehow staying up & from then on proceding to take over the fight & drop Iran in the 11th. An unsupassable effort of pure skill, guts, heart & bravery against a monster of a man who'd just annialated Hearns:bbb:deal
I think there may be similarities in your comparison, but i would imagine its slightly different with boxers. I mean, most peoples favourite fighter is someone who has done something or has a certain style or competed in a certain fight which make that person sit up and take notice. Im not trying to be smart here, each to their own and all that, im just curious as to what makes them more appealing than a fellow fighter whose fights that you can see. Im not disputing their greatnessor anything like that nor am i saying that filmed fighters are necessarily better than ones with no footage. Id just thought id ask someone whose opinion i respect:good
I always consider Harry, by 1924 30 yrs old, fighting with one eye vs Gene in Cleveland that year and arguably winning the no decision/newspaper decision all I need. That's the same year Gene demoed his wares on Carpentier, the film of which made Ali sit up in his chair and state with conviction...Who is this guy??...He's a White Ali!!..Today he'd be Champ!! http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...J&pg=4527,809311&dq=greb+tunney+jim-jab&hl=en
Marciano pulling out a win against Walcott in their first fight. It defined Marciano. Getting hit with Walcott's hardest and best timed bombs for much of the fight and firing right back, then being blinded for 3 rounds and still pressing on swinging at Walcott when he could. After all of that his eyes cleared up and he knew he was behind and looked for the perfect punch, he timed it right, and Walcott was out cold before he hit the canvas and a banged up Marciano was the new champion.
When Salvador Sanchez picked apart the great Wilfredo Gomez. The fight made Sanchez my favorite fighter and boxing my favorite sport.
Corrales Corrales - Castillo - round 10 Gatti Gatti - Ward, Robinson, Ruelas. Valero Valero - Demarco, straight after the elbow incident, Valero went from second gear to fifth in a moment.
Tyson vs Berbick. One of the biggest a$$ whoopings in history. It was the emergence of a new era in boxing and it would be ruled with an iron fist. But not for long though
you know what it is JG [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIGEWFxhgGQ[/ame] the pinnacle of boxing from where I'm sitting
in round 2 when Ferdie Pacheco (I think) shouts 'WHAT A FIGHT' it touches me on my ****ing ****, nah really it touches me, it's just something else, we miss that in the UK today, we miss that drama, so much, this is a dramatic sport, and we in the Uk have boring commentary, it's just not right
Schmeling KO12 Louis Anyway, not my fav fighter but Erdei UD12 Fragomeni. Stepping up on short notice - originally he was supposed to have a lhw unification fight - fighting a guy 22 pounds heavier and quite a bit bigger than him while having been in bed with the flu the week before the fight, outboxing him for the first four and outslugging him for much of the remaining 8 rounds in a really good fight was really something.
Carlos Monzon's rematch with and successful title defense against Bennie Briscoe.. equally fine was his off the canvas rematch victory over Rodrigo Valdez.
