Hey kenmore, thanks for holding my opinion in some esteem I think Povetkin has a good workrate for a heavyweight, throws nice combinations with decent speed and power. Not a bad outside fighter, but better on the inside. On the negative, he runs out of gas fast, his defense gets worse as the fight goes on and I don't see anything special about him in any one category. Just a guy who won a belt due to weak opposition. I think Monte Barrett would have a chance against him as would Tua. Helenius, who's in his prime, should catch him in a 12 round fight and KO him. IF povetkin were to win that'd be because he just moved and moved and moved. Don't think he can for 12.
What's your summary of Chagaev's abilities, especially now that his career has run it's full course? I remember we used talk about him hear in '01 and '02, back when ESB started. At the time, Chagaev was just a fledgling prospect, and people were "gaga" about the possibility that he could be a "white" version of Tyson. Hence, the "White Tyson" nickname. In your view, did Chagaev turn out to be a "White Tyson," or is he just white?
You know your stuff. I remember back in '01, you predicted the K Bros. would dominate the heavyweight division in the next decade. Curiously, what do you think about Dimitrenko? He was one of the big prospects back in '01. Looks like he just didn't measure up, though. He's got offensive ability, but lacks durability, balance, and coordination. That's my take on him.
I'd say this is 60/40 in Povetkin's favor. Helenius doesn't have nearly the experience or craft of Chagaev, and Helenius is so ponderous that he probably would get outboxed. On the other hand, there seems to me to be something weak about Povetkin. I've just never really believed in him, and obviously Helenius has the power to get him out of there. Good matchup, but it's premature.
Chagaev is a fighter with some steak but no sizzle, meaning he's pretty good at what he does but he doesn't do much, as he has a very-low workrate. If he fought Povetkin the whole way through he may have beaten him. Instead he settled for fighting in "spots" and got outworked. Chagaev is a pretty ordinary fighter, like Povetkin, but unlike Povetkin who finishes his fights with an empty gas tank Chagaev likes to save his energy, for the afterparty perhaps? Still Chagaev could give some decent american heavies, like Arreola, a decent fight. Hits decent and can take a shot, doesn't wear out from what I've seen.
helenius doesn't have anyone close to Povetkin on his resume so this by brutal KO is just bull****. Povetkin is a proven contender who was a gold medalist. This guy knows how to win and Im not sure Helenius is all that as you guys make him out to be.
Thank you for remembering my analysis from ten years ago and giving me credit. I thought that Wlad and Vitali would reign supreme and it has happened, sadly no opposition is on the horizon to challenge their thrones. I also remember Max Kellerman saying that neither of them would ever become champions:rofl With respect to Dimitrenko, I think he has fought decent opponents and stopped alot of them. His losing to Eddie Chambers, in a disputed decision, leaves a bad taste in one's mouth. Think Dimitrenko should fight a class-a opponent, like arreola, to see where's he's at, instead of wasting his time padding his record with the like of Michael SPrott. Dimitrenko is tall, can punch, can box and has decent defense. On that note, where is Valuev? He's been MIA and his record isn't bad.
How is it that you had Dimitrenko winning over Chambers? Everyone I know had Chambers winning easily. I thought Chambers took it by a wide margin.
To be honest I saw some of Dimitrenko's other fights but not against Chambers. Just looked at the boxrec. Very few heavies are worth watching and I would put Dimitrenko in the group with Tyson Fury, Povetkin, Chagaev. Big, lumbering guys who aren't too exciting or dominant.
