HBO did a great job editiing the episode to focus on Floyd Sr and comments like "I win because he's Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr and I am Sr" which can be viewed in two ways; a proud Dad or an over involved Dad trying to take credit for his son's accomplishments. Following the family closely over the years, it's clear that there is a little bit of both going on. Parent's are supposed to support their kids and be proud of their accomplishments and not try to take credit for them. Imagine dedicating most of your life to something only for your father to take credit for it every time a mic is put in his face? Honestly, I would eventually snap too. Did Floyd take it too far? Of course, especially with cameras rolling but Floyd doesn't have a filter and that's part of the reason why he is such an intriguing character and personality. Floyd does need to focus on training without distractions so he should have quietly asked Sr to leave camp. It's a messy situation to say the least
Those are mere words. If you are around your father and you guys use these words all the time, then it really isn't. I doubt the Mayweathers are sensitive to these words. I can imagine a conversation in their house going something like: Father: Did you see the game? That motha****er ran three TD's! Son: How the **** did that ***git miss the tackle? Father: Man that ni99a was scareder than a *****! Son: **** this ****, I'm goin out.. See ya later pops. Father: Hey motha****a! Bring me one of them beers out the fridge first! Blah, blah, blah.... The use of the words are not a big deal. The fact that people are trying make it a big deal says more about them than the Mayweathers.
True but Floyd should've known better and it shows he's very insecure. None of us on this board, no boxing writer, those who watch boxing, or even those who don't but know who Floyd Jr. is believe that Floyd Sr made him, Jr wouldn't be a fighter without him and deserve to take full credit for his son's success. We all know he contributed to his son's success bucause let's be honest, Sr trained Jr from youth and once he got with Roger, he already had a good technical pedigree. But we all know Mayweather earned his stripes as a fighter. As a matter of fact, People who only watch boxing twice a year when there is a PPV probably don't even know who SR is.
no big deal. but if i were the son, never would i drive my father out of my property, just saying. dont think that was staged at all.
Here's the thing though, there was stuff said that wasn't shown on HBO. What Sr. said that really set Jr. off wasn't shown. So we have no idea why Jr. blew up like that.
Sr: "I see you haven't cycled all that **** in you out yet. And you got me defending you against that other guy with **** in him."
You're right and Floyd himself earlier in the episode said that both Floyd Sr and Roger deserve part of the credit for his success. Floyd is usually very complimentary towards his father in recent interviews too. And Floyd is insecure and heavily flawed. Again, this is part of what makes him so compelling. He's just a man who happens to be very good at what he does. That's part of the problem with criticisms of Floyd around here by a select group because they hold these people at higher standards than they hold themselves. How many threads are there about how great of a role model Pac is as one of the main reasons why people should support him over Floyd? Then is leaks out that Pac is broke due to gambling, partying and supporting many hangers on that he shouldn't. Truth is, they are both men like you and I and I'm sure if our lives were broadcasted for the world to see then there would be a lot to criticize. It's just boxing.
BigReg...why the **** you tryin to make excuses for the man? He's a big boy. If he's tryin to talk to his daddy like that, it's on him. Why you tryin to make it right when the truth has been WRITTEN if you know what I'm talkin about. And I'm no saint, but **** man...if I do some **** that I shouldn't do, I at least can admit to myself that it was wrong. Let him be him, but there are actions that don't need justifiable reactions from observers. They are as they are.
Anyone who thinks that arguement was staged is a dumb son of a *****, if you can't differentiate real from fake It's hopeless for you, with that said all the Mayweather haters seem to be so into Floyd's personal life and I can't understand it It's Floyd beat his bm, he poked security, he's too flashy, he only fights for money, his family is dysfunctional, who gives a ****, I just wanna see him fight as for what he does outside the ring is his business, let's keep it about boxing, **** all this soap opera ****...
