What can Ortiz do to beat Floyd

I think his fundamentals are petty solid. He's a straight puncher, has good balance, keeps his chin down, hands up.

I think his body punching is very overated. I dont see Mayweather hurting anyone significantly to the body, not worthy of note anyway.

I disagree with that. If you actually watch DLH & Castillo closely, they didn't really use the jab that much, its just that on the rare occasions DLH did use it, he had more success, so people couldn't understand why he didn't continue to use it.

Part of the reason Castillo threw him off, is because Castillo refused to lead to him, and so Maweather was reluctant to lead off, so went into second mode, which is taking you onto the backfoot, using his movement to reset you, then getting off first with his speed whilst your waiting (stalking)on him, but whilst doing this, Castillo was still able to stalk him into areas of the ring where he could trap him and apply pressure, infact there were times when Mayweather would throw punches from out of range, as he felt compelled to throw because of the mental pressure Castillo was putting him under.

Ricky Hatton found his way inside against Mayweather to, without much of a jab.

Ideally Ortiz would have a jab, and would be more effective using the jab, as he will get hit more if he's not working his way in, but it doesn't mean he cant still be effective imo.



Ortiz will finish Mayweather if!! he hurts him. Ortiz has the youth/stamina to be consistent with his attack if he manages to hurt Mayweather, and he's actually pretty good at putting punches together when he's able to get close, he runs his punches up through the middle to(uppercuts)to

Floyd had his own questions to answers in this fight imo.

 

He didn't finish Berto, Peterson or Maidana. He is not a good finisher IMO, the telegraphed right hand Maidana caught him with coming in shows how open Ortiz is when steaming in for the kill.

But yeah, Ortiz's only chance is early doors as Floyd does take a while to adjust. The jab is the key; you can have success with it against Floyd, it's just being persistent with it and not being deterred by his fast and sharp counters.

But yep, Ortiz just flicks his jab out.

Kid has got no chance IMO.

You dont think that with the current guys around 140/147 Khan's style is best suited to actually be competative with Floyds?

 

not at all mate imo. hes still too open, and gets square on when he flurries and i think mayweather would counter the **** outa him

In the case of Berto and Maidana, they turned it around as they had the power to put him on his ass with one shot. Peterson fight was a little weird imo. It was as though he just switched off as he thought he could finish it whenever he wanted. Comes back to how mentality inconsistent Ortiz can be.
