Erik Morales remains the last man to Pacquiao down at super featherweight. Manny has gone on to dominate through the weight divisions and in impressive fashion aswell. Morales battled hard and even turned southpaw and went toe 2 toe with Phillipino in the last round. So how do u rate this win compared to that of Calzaghes win over Middleweight great Bernard Hopkins. This, IMO, was a massive win for Calzaghe, take the W of his resume and it's pretty weak. His next best W was Kessler, which altho a very good win comes nowhere near the hopkins fight, even if it was a tight win. Take the Pacquiao fight from Morales and he still has plenty of big wins their. So who do u think scores the biggest win. Calzaghe or Morales:think

Good question actually. On face value you'd go morales easily but PAC wasn't quite the fighter he became, I say that because morales outfoxed him comprehensively, showed up a lack of ring intelligence in that version of PAC. Whereas Bernard had all the tricks in the book, despite his age, and calzaghe beat him. I'd go morales but it's not as clear cut as you think at first glance.
Well, Calzaghe had a close fight with an absolute legend, but so have lots of good fighters. Morales beat Pac convincingly. Regardless of what he went on to be, it was still an amazing win over a top fighter, especially considering how their series ended up and how Pac has gone on to be perceived. It's what you like really, both guys beat the no.1 and no.2 fighte of the last decade. Calzaghe showed how formidable his style was by even making Hopkins befuddled. Morales outboxed and outfought a man who has been on a tear ever since. Morales' win was more comprehensive, but Hopkins rarely loses convincingly! Gotta go with morales, he beat Pacquiao who has achieved more than Hopkins and that aint no dis on BHop. They say Pacquaio wasnt peak which looks to be true but that victory was after he Manny defeated Barrera for the first time, a result many claim as Pacmans best victory to date. Calzaghes was an excellent win also but it was very close, many even believe BHop edged it. Morales however put on a masterclass even turning southpaw in the last round just because he could.
How dare LP start a thread not Clevery or Bellew related when the other 200 are doing so well!!! Anyway, Morales for me. The Hopkins win was razor thin (I had it by a point to Joey), but Erik pretty much done a number on Pac. Obviously both are legends in the sport, but Pac should probably be rated above BHop, which makes Morales' win all the more impressive. Calzaghe's win over BHop was great, and was the defining moment in his career IMO, but Erik's win was greater.
If you're going on Morales' ring record as a whole, then yes. I would say that both Barrera and Pacman got the better of Morales in their respective series and that definitely hampers his legacy. But, knowing that Pac wasn't necessarily a good style matchup for El Terrible makes his performance in the first fight even more commendable IMO. In short; first win, quality for Morales' standing. Getting battered x2 afterwards, not so good for Morales' standing.
Just watched Pac/Morales I again twice, 1st with HBO commentary & 2nd with Watt & Smith, it was if i'd watched two different fights. Yer don't realise it but the commentary def affects yer perceptions of whats actually going on. Yanks never stop yapping as there's 3 of them all trying to get their imput in over the other & the brit team come across pretty dull in comparison. But watching the fight with Watt & Smith you'd think that Pac took a bit of a shellacking whilst with HBO it was blow for blow equal with Eric pinching it round by round as called by the 3 HBO talking heads. Result was never in doubt but it seemed closer watching HBO's version.
