The problem with this and most forums is that if someone hasn't heard of a boxer, it's assumed he's not up to scratch. I pumped the odds on the over 9.5 rounds and Geale on points (a crazy $2.45) on the basis Albert could fight. As Gary Shaw said tonight, there are no more easy fights for Danny.

Weird. In the US, Albert is far better known than Geale. That is to say, he's somewhat recognizable while Geale is just flat out unknown. Of course, Albert fought on American TV (albeit just at domestic level) a fair bit in his heyday, whereas Geale to my knowledge has yet to ever be introduced to yank audiences.

Even a few of my countrymen on the General Forum expressed surprise at Geale not blowing Albert away.

Much bigger punchers than Geale would even find it difficult to stop the Nigerian. Being caught out cold and scuppered by the Mandingo Warrior (who is notoriously most dangerous in the opening frame) after a hurtful dig to the body is no mark of frailty.

I thought the main event production/ telecast was really good last night besides barry michaels usual foolery.

I agree production was good..commentating was poor as always & plenty of MMA pumping on the telecast again.
The last FOX card was the 1st time i never heard any MMA nuthugging.

He was winning the fight IMO but caught with a punch that opened up his face. Just bad luck.

116-112? I reckon Albert only won 2 rounds the 4th and the 8th from memory.

Twice barry referred to akauola as a filo. Thats just poor...the kid was born in australia whose parents are islanders.

I never sensed that albert was on the verge of being stopped let alone in a round in which he was competing well....same round both andy and barry were preparing for geale to end it. :patsch

It was a really hard fought win for geale, despite him being a clear winner. Not being blessed with a lot of one punch power, atleast he knows he has the stamina and balls to dig deep in a dog fight when he has to.

Im tipping his coach would be thrilled with the effort but a tiny bit peeved that daniel got hit as much as he did. I actually think geale wanted to war with albert and put on a show for his fans, so he took more risks and relaxed on the defense a little bit. Daniel was super pumped post fight...it was like he challenged himself to " trade" last night and he kind of got off on the winning feeling :D

We sort of got to see a different side to geale in that fight...even in his post fight interview. It was great :good

Completely agree with your thoughts PJ. Watching live there were a few close rounds but Geale was the clear winner. Both guys gave their all. The atmosphere last night was probably the best I've experienced at a fight. Crowd was right into it.

    u r a genious!!!!!!!

    very well put.

yeah it was clear he wanted to put on a show that was entertaining for the people watching. a bit like katsidis in saying i don't care if the crowd is against me, as long as they go nuts and get their money's worth.

if he was fighting the very best fighters, he would have approached it differently u would think.

It seemed like a real lively crowd on tv. If you recorded it or get to watch the whole telecast ippy...really well put together production. Just a bit more classy and better content filling the down time.

On your boy mostyn.....really noticeable with the head movement. It'l come more natural to him with practice obviously but the fact he is doing it now means he is a listener mate....your three quarters of the way there. Good stuff :good

Yeah, kats is the same and you are right...i doubt geale is going to turn hagler or duran in the future.

Looking forward to getting a copy of it and having a look. On Mostyn, he's backing up again on the Mundine undercard. Gives him another opportunity to continue to improve and work on a few things. His two favourite boxers are Tyson and Holyfield and he watched plenty of the former in the lead up to this bout. We're not in any real rush with him mate. Had 5 fights now, but only 11 rounds I think. 7 of those that are complete rounds.

Congrats to Gealey on his 1st successful title defense. His work rate is just getting better. Does anyone know if Sylvester is chasing the rematch. The rematch will be a fight in the makings after watching the 1st one.
