I've been debating some Mayweather fans on a different threas on the validity of Mayweathers win over Juan Manuel Marquez.

What got me irritated and led me to post this thread was the Mayweather fan assertion that Mayweather outclassed Marquez with skill.

.....to that I said, "Marquez did'nt hold a single physical advantage over Mayweather, plus Mayweather is younger."
......then I just posted in that other thread that Marquez moving up two weight divisions to face Mayweather is the equivalent of the current Mayweather trying to move up 2 weight divsions to matchup with a prime Roy Jones Jr.

Why did I chose Roy Jones Jr???????
.....because like Marquez not holding any physical advantages over Mayweather, so to would Mayweather not hold any vs Roy Jones Jr.

.....and guess what? ......I view Mayweather as much better skilled than Roy Jones, but at 160 lbs without any physical advantages, those skills would not pay the bill.

Roy is a big MW with one punch KO power. I get the point you're trying to make.

Would'nt you agree that the lightweight version of Marquez who was past his prime moving up two weight divsions to fight a younger Mayweather would be at the very least somewhat the equivalence of the current Mayweather going up two weight divisions to face a prime RJJ at 160 lbs?????

In both instances, neither Marquez or Mayweather who have plenty of skill, hold any physical advantages in said matchups.
.......height, reach, quickness, speed, power, and strenghth all go to the bigger fighter in either matchup.

    Does'nt skill pay the bills???

If Mayweather outclassed Marquez with skill as you say, whats to stop him from doing the same to a prime RJJ???
......skillwise Mayweather is better than Jones. But it does'nt work does it when Jones is the faster, quicker, bigger man with "every" physical advantage.:bbb

The only problem is, Floyd will MAYBE end his career at 154-160. Roy was 193 pounds against Ruiz. Roy was a huge fighter cutting weight early in his career. Marquez and Floyd don't actually rehydrate that far away from each other. So no, it isn't the same thing at all.

It's pretty close, but Floyd is a small welter and Roy is a big MW so it's more extreme imo, but I know where you're trying to get at
