Naz is an interesting one. Quite clearly he was a class a bell end out of the ring. But one if the only fighters that genuinely allowed his out of ring personna in to the ring. It was his undoing in the end because against Barrera his posturing was something he did out of the ring and it lost him the fight.

Every one is entitled to rate someone. It's about respecting someone who has earned the right for respect in the ring. Which for me is 99.99 of all boxers.

Barrera was written off after the Jones defeats to quite a large extent, it's part of, if not the stand out reason, that he gets looked upon so favourably now, because of the way he re-applied himself, refined himself, and proved people wrong, that he wasn't merely a limited brawler with little skills(which he was), and that he was an excellent boxer-puncher and one of the greatest fighters of his generation.

I agree to a point. But Barrera didn't properly adapt his style until after morales 1. His style had to change. There was a question over whether he could continue to engage the way he did, but other than that nobody really talked about him hanging up his gloves. That sort of talk only really came about after fights like pacquiao.
But back to point. His class wasn't questioned. It was more down to could he continue to have wars. He didn't have to re prove anything to anyone, only to himself.

 

I think its more related to the British mentality....we set ourselves up for a smack in the face.

We media big up fighters so much that when it doesnt turn out as hyped up we lay into them same with most other sports aswell.

Also, if boxers consistently fought the best we would know who was the best and repsect the other's alot more.

Look at other sport, Tennis for example you have to play the best to win (no option)
Golf, you have to play the best to win (no option)
Swimming same
Cycling same
Athletics same
everything else same (except boxing) hmmmmmmmm

 

I agree with ya Chris. people get overrated and underrated massively on this forum. At the minute, Rios is untouchable, but if he lost to JMM in a war, he'd be a glass chinned hype. It's just the way it is with some people. Personally, I like to see fighters lose as it shows u what they are made of as Flea said. Froch lost to Kessler in a war, but came back strong by wiping the floor with AA and out slugging Johnson. To me, that proves he is world class

I think a fair few times we can all hold our hands up and say ''i've been way to critical of a fighter(s)''. There's a fair few of us on here (myself included) who really like to delve into analysis of fighters and at times we can over analyze fighters.

Your right about likes of DeGale,Murray and Mitchell and if i'm honest i stuck boot into Kevin but they was my true feelings i felt the lad was mentally done and i wasn't the only one. DeGale well i'm a fan and still am and i sometimes read posts and way people talk it's like he's **** and Groves won by a country mile. For many it was a close fight so if DeGale's really that **** then the win for Groves doesn't mean much. Obviously it did and George put on a great display of courage and improvement.

Murray i've written off at world level because i feel the current champions beat him for skill level and i think myself and many others have right to say that. He's not **** at all and anyone who says that is a moron. I just wish the lad added more to his game because i'd love to of seen him win a world title but really i can't see him doing it after the Mitchell loss. It was coming for a while although i felt he'd beat Kevin who worried me coming off a long lay off and mentally draining period in his life/career.

The problem on here at current moment is either people want to bait trainers into arguments. Attack a fighter because they have a dislike for them as a man not a fighter or they just like to moan. I used to always dislike many prospects that were brought through as a kid. Dunno why but it was only till i watched the Olympians (JDG,Gavin,BJS) when i thought this is a silly attitude i need to enjoy and want these guys to do well because there the future of our great sport. Imagine not having prospects and young fighters we wouldn't have a tomorrow. This forum wouldn't have the threads, it would be like Aussie forum which is mainly based around 2 fighters and a few extra's who actually deserve more threads then the other two clowns (Mundine/Green).

My current bug bear on this site is the moaning about titles. It's not a new story and sadly nothing will change. Just enjoy the good fights and **** the belts. We know in our hearts who's the top guys in each division. Also the use of the word ''bums'' when talking about fighters pisses me off bigtime. I respect anyman that gets in the ring and tries. The term is a disgrace and anyone who's stepped in a ring knows how it feels to step in there knowing your always one punch away from death.

From foreigner's perspective I see British boxing heads as passionate and
open-minded, of course, there are a lot of haters and fanboys, like everywhere, but it's still better than in Germany or Poland, where balanced opinions and sense of humour are rare. Especially on this forum some things are marvels - e.g. these haikus about Enzo Calzaghe - truly inspiring stuff.
