Geale has a broken bone in his right hand:

    Geale targets Las Vegas

by Jame Bresnehan - The Mercury (Tas) - September 2nd 2011

TASMANIAN boxing hero Daniel Geale wants to fight other world middleweight champions for their belts in the mecca of international boxing, Las Vegas.

A day after dispatching Miami-based Nigerian hard-nut Eromosele Albert in front of a boisterous packed house at Hobart's Derwent Entertainment Centre his 25th win from 26 bouts Geale revealed his ultimate goal was a big-time bout in Vegas.

His new American manager, Gary Shaw, said US networks HBO and Showtime were circling for the TV rights to the Tasmanian's next fight, which could be in Sydney in December.

After that, Geale wants to show his talents to the huge US market, where he could earn millions.

Geale gave up a million-dollar deal to fight in the US so he could fight on home soil, but his winnings will not be known until Monday.

"He's going on a trip around Tassie -- he'll have enough for petrol," Geale's Australian manager Garrie Francisco said.

"The prizemoney is not determined yet. We haven't got the final numbers but we'll know by Monday."

A world title fight on US soil would draw huge interest for Geale, originally from Launceston and now living and training in Sydney.

"That's the pinnacle, fighting in Vegas in front of massive crowds against other world title holders -- that's where it's at," Geale said.

"You win there, you can win anywhere in the world. So that's definitely something we are looking at and hopefully that will come about soon."

Geale's next title defence hinges on his recovery from a broken bone in his main weapon, his right hand, which was so sore yesterday he could barely make a fist.

"We have spoken about where our next fight will be and Sydney was definitely one of the places we talked about," Geale said.

"Gary Shaw says we've got plenty of options outside of Australia as well.

"He [Albert] was very well known, he has a high profile in that industry in the US, so he will open doors for us."

Geale's bout with the former Nigerian Olympian was the fifth time in his past six fights he fought a 12-round epic.

"He was tough. It was his last shot at the title so he had to put in hard," Geale said.

"He kept coming at me and nothing I did seemed to bother him.

"I did catch him and hurt him a couple of times, but he was a tough guy."

Geale was glad he brought his first title fight to Tasmania.

"One hundred per cent. I wouldn't have wanted it any other place," he said.

"Having a crowd like that is, well, hopefully not, a once in a lifetime. It's a massive experience. I'd love to be able to do that again."

Plenty of options in the USA.... Rubio, JCC Jr and Sturm are all beatable and Geale has the tools to do it. Just hope he doesnt have to fight Sturm in Germany... that is not a fight he will win. THose judges are crooked as ****. I couldnt believe he got the nod over Sylvester to be honest.

    How long will it last....
I wonder how bad his hand was going into the fight. He mentioned it was dicky straight after the fight, but was it already broken prior?

Reorts say it was badly swollen and required constant ice treatment after sparring sessions leading into the fight.

The broken hand is a setback. Depending on what he's broken it could take 4 - 6 weeks to heal. The small bones behind your palm can takes ages because of the small amount of bloodflow they get.

Not knowing a hell of a lot about hand injuries, is there any minor corrective surgery that can be done, or is it simply a 'time heals all wounds' thing?
