You know, Donaire does annoy me a bit (well, the ridiculous hype surrounding him does), but I appreciate his talents as a fighter, and I will be very very impressed if he was to take on a Gamboa next year. That's a massive ask, and I'm surprised to hear him be so willing to get it on. Fair play to him.

I'd love for Donaire to smash him. I'd fancy him to get a win if they ever fought too so long as he carries the weight well which may be a determining factor

Thinking about it, I'd probably like to see this fight more than any other (maybe apart from Pac-Mayweather). Fantastic match-up as long as Donaire moves up comfortably, which you would expect him to.

'it's just a street fight', that kind of mentality... you know what I mean? If you think about 'they're heavier', 'they're bigger', you've pretty much lost the fight. But if you look at it as, 'it's fair game', 'it's about what you do out there', they make the weight, they make the weight. That's how that mentality goes, and that's how Manny thinks about it. It's a fight. When you go in that ring, you never want to see how big that guy is or anything like that, because that will take you down before you even go into that ring."

Exactly why weight isn't as big of a problem as some make it out to be. Amongst two well-matched fighters that are game and able, anything can happen, to an exten of course. I will add that bigger gloves and 24 hr rehydration period make this harder in this day and age.

I've always felt this was the big one to look forward to. oth fighters look genuine talents, and have looked uber-impressive and, dare I say it, the two fighters from 118-126 that look to be genuinely 'great'. This would be a fight for solidifying either mans resume that's for sure, a genuine super fight!

But what is Gamboa gonna' do in the meantime?

    -Ponce
-Nishioka/Marquez winner? Or, preferably, Chris John
-One more? Maybe JuanMa will be sacrificed after a gimme.

Then Donaire? It's the fight to make, by the looks of it, no one will feasibly test Donaire until he isn't massive. That contradicts my previous statement about weight, but Donaire is not only a massive guy at the lower weights, he's also ace as well!

126 looks to be his ceiling IMO, he's not 21, and he's filled out already.

If they both carry on looking great and fight say, November/December next year, I reckon Gamboa wins.

    At Gaz.

Winner of the winner fights Gary Russell III?

    I'd fancy Donaire strongly here.

It should also be noted that Gamboa is looking to move up in weight very soon. Gamboa vs Donaire, even next year, may be unlikely if Gamboa can no longer remain at 126.

    Against Gamboa?

True. I'm thinking he moves up and smashes everyone, Arum raws it out and Nonito picks up a strap at 126 before fighting Willie Casey.

In all seriousness though, hopefully Gamboa could be coaxed back down if it happens, he's not a massive feather (he started out as a super feather before coming down as you'll know) and could probably be a bit more uncomfortable and squeeze in at 126, as at 130 I'd be less interested to be honest.

As I say, I predict that Donaire will not be an Elite level force post-126 (and I'm talking useless crystal ball **** here) and Gamboa is at his optimum at 126 IMO (again, pretty useless spurious guesswork)

I agree Flea, with his age and size the "Donaire at 130/135lbs?" threads are more than a little hopefull IMHO.

As you're my favourite guy to get a stylistic breakdown from, let's hear it, and I will respond with my own :good

And get back on that puncher thread, stop asking about Chang and running away :tong

Exactly. At some point he'll enter a weightclass and be a featherfisted midget ;-)

    Like Pacquiao?

Listen Gamboa is a beast at the weight. He is quick, strong, has genuine power, and I don't see many being able to touch him (previously hopes JuanMa would be able to, but I never really believed it due to the vast difference in speed).

Similarly, no-one touches Doniare atm. The 1 guy I thought might give him trouble was Montiel with the traps he leaves. Bur he was blown away. The only thing left for him is to keep moving up as a rematch with Vic does nothing for me.

As for the fight, it's a 50-50 for me. For the first time in his career, Gamboa is fighting someone faster than he is. How will ge react when he isn't the first to lead? Similarly, for the first time in his career, Doniare is the smaller, less powerful guy. How will he react when he is out muscled and hit hard?

Damn I can't choose. Gun to my head, Doniare wins a decision if he carries the weight well like I expect him to do
