The pull counter requires technical skill, if it didnt Zab Judah or anybody who is faster then Mayweathe could do it. Being able to anticipate and counter your opponents attack, i.e knowing what they are going to do before they do it because you can read and study their movements and habits is not a sign of technically insufficiency. If this were the case, every fighter who is faster then Floyd would be able to do this. Berto would be able to do this, but he cant. Umm he got rocked and staggered several times by Pascal. atsch Whens the last time you see Mayweather lose to a fighter the caliber of Jermain Taylor. When did lateral movement have anything to do with being technically sound. Floyd likes to fight in the pocket mostly, which requires far greater technical ability then moving around on the outside. Or would you say Lamont Peterson is better techincally then Erik Morales? So he's become stationary, instead of using his legs, and thats a sign of him being more reflex orientated and less technical. :rofl How exactly do you work that out? How is Floyd standing in the pocket, blocking and dodging punches require less technical skill then moving on the outside which is mostly what athletic but less technically skilled fighters do? Hopkins has been one of the top 3 fastest fighters in his division in every division he's fought in. NAme 5 fighters over the last 5 years that have been more athletically gifted then Hopkins that he's fought.
Unless boxing declines even more rapidly then this is extremely unlikely. Extremely unlikely is still an understatement.
Michigan you are 1 of the biggest *****s on this site so.... Id argue with you further if i thought that there would be any point to it whatsoever. So how about we agree to disagree? I try never to discuss things with people that have their mind madeup in advance.
You think that Floyd predicting his opponents movements and countering their movements is a sign of reflexes and not technical skill. Thats all that needs to be said.
you are assuming PBF could not adjust overtime (you say it but you do not think it is possible) PBF style is closer to Toney's who I think has better technique than even bhop. What separates these three guys above everyone else today is their vision. the can see what the other fighter will do just by how they are positioned. the problem with PBF is that he is fighting in a lower weight class where fighters are faster and quicker than in the heavier weights and he doesn't have the size to move up. if anyone could do it today its PBF because he has discipline like bhop, might even train even harder than nard an has a Ring IQ equal to both Toney and Nard. Also Bhop has adjusted his style to be more aggressive and was tagged a couple of times by pascal.
You think movement has nothing to do with being technically sound, thats all that needs to be said about you.
No i said that his CURRENT style wont work for him at age 40. I also clearly said that its entirely possible he could adjust his style with age. Read again. Edit: Mind you this is my opinion and not remotely factual obviously. Edit2: On the Toney comparison, i semi agree... although Toney even before 40 started slipping to where he struggled with b and c class fighters. Also Toneys defense especially his upper body movement is more pre emptive, where Floyd is reaction based.
You think that Hopkins doesnt get hit flush, when Pascal knocked him down twice and staggered him several times in their second fight. How can I debate someone who doesnt even have their facts right?
He can't. He doesn't have the ability to recover after his fights anymore, he keeps taking 2 and 3 year layoffs. Yes it's possible in theory that he could, but he doesn't fight often enough to do so and keep winning because he hasn't begun the process of making the right adaptations. For example he lost his legs, so now he does sit on his punches more and fights more aggressively, but when he loses his reflexes he will get hit more and he doesn't seem prepared to get hit. He doesn't have a chin like Hopkins or Toney, or the physical toughness of either fighter.
I know you said that's what you said but everything you said up to that point leads one to believe contrary. Toney was struggling not because of his technique but because he was unmotivated. we all saw what a motivated toney could do against Jirov. pre-emptive vs reactionary is minute, when you are fighting at these guys level.
Based on what. And how do you know that he takes years off to recover instead of just being bored with the sport? What injuries did he sustain in hte Marquez and Mosley fights?
