Maloney mentioned that he has to take on a mandatory for his European next. Current #1 challenger in the EBU rankings is Sydorenko. That could be an issue.

 

You don't think a win over Darchinyan carries a bit more weight than one over Kameda/Ruiz/Moreno? :blood

 

I was pointing to your reference of the IBO being a world title. Of course, ignoring these baubles, a win over Darchinyan would be fantastic. I'm not sure I'd fancy his chances though.

Mcdonnell is a good fighter, will need to wait till Donaire vacates and try and get a vacant belt.

 

I'd love Mcdonnell-Sidorenko to take place. Really like Sidorenko- if Mcdonnell could beat him, I wouldn't be surprised if he went on to claim a belt in the future. I don't see a lot of difference in the overall quality of Sidorenko & Kameda to be honest.

Having said that, I'd fancy both of them to just have too much for Jamie. Sidorenko should be able to walk him down often enough and his actual boxing skill is pretty underrated I think. He's not as stiff as your usual come forward, Eastern European type of fighter

Great idea for a match-up, too. Sidorenko is also actually qualified to contend for a Euro title, unlike many of the other big names.

Curious, why do you see Kameda as too full a plate? His major advantage (besides mostly fighting at home) is usually being stronger and heavier handed, and we know McDonnell can take several lumps in his tea. I really don't know if Kameda is any better a boxer on the outside, and McDonnell has shown he can bang away a bit in the trench. A complete unknown named David De La Mora recently stepped up and gave Kameda all he could handle by forcing an inside fight as often as possible, and came within heartbreaking distance of the upset. I shaded it to DLM by a point and had he not suffered a flash knockdown once in the third round (which he was otherwise winning) he'd have won it on the official cards. Thanks for that, I knew he was fighting last week but missed it. To be honest, I haven't seen him at bantamweight yet but I was pretty surprised that he managed to carry the weight so well and pick up a belt at 118.

Koki is clearly better on the inside than outside no arguments there and though McDonnell surprised me with how well he coped at close quarters last night, I think it would be definitely to Kameda's advantage if the fight was primarily fought on the inside. He's a much better combination puncher than Hall is and with the accuracy he often gets to head & body, I'd just fancy him to wear McDonnell down.

But even if Jamie was able to keep the fight on the outside with straighter punches, I think Kameda is adept enough to be able to pick him enough. He's a pretty effective counter puncher when he wants to be and he was landing a lot of counter right hooks from range when he fought Wonjongkam. I thought that fight was very close tbh and Koki impressed me in there. Plus, Mcdonnell is susceptible to straight punches when he lets his hands go for his admittedly nice flurries and the lead straight left of Kameda is certainly accurate enough to cause Jamie worries.

I wouldn't say Kameda would be a 100% favourite if he were to take on McDonnell but I do feel he would be able to beat Jamie a few different ways whereas I think Jamie would have to fight the perfect, disciplined outside fight if he wanted to beat him. Really though, my knowledge on Kameda at 118 is pretty sketchy so I'll watch his recent fights to get a better picture on him.

 

McDonnell should invest in a better trainer.... Was getting caught by sloppy rights for 8 rounds.... top 10 cats would put him away! If he went to an Emanuel Steward he would make things interesting,,, but at this moment in time...... He gets his arse handed to him

 

I thought Staurt Hall would win this fight well i was wrong i think Mcdonell would be better of stepping up to 8st 10lbs and win a title there
