No Bubsy, I'm not sceptical of what your saying, I was saying I was sceptical of the whole stoppage at the time, hence your comments only enforce that opinion.

You had a big fight in the USA today with Slaveck vs. Berto stopped because of a serious cut, yet the fighter protested/stated in a professional manner his willingness to continue, HBO even appluaded him for it at the end of the telecast, yet the other night, the cut didn't look that bad and this has been confirmed by yourself that the doctor was in agreeance for the fight to continue and yet the ref has deemed the fighter not right to continue due to what seemed to be, a severe lack of any protest/questioning by the fighter stating his willingness to do so.

 

Yep, but only if ref thinks the fight should continue.

At times I wonder about Dr Peter Lewis. I recall a time when ref Dave Hedgecock stopped JWP's kickboxing bout on nasty cut. JWP then pleaded with Lewis to overrule ref, and overrule he did. Dave was farkin fuming.

 

No ifs no buts Doctor has final word................

I agree Old Man, but to state the obvious, why then do we have the fight being stopped if people on here are stating the doc ok'd it go on?

At the rules meeting that we all attended Brad Vocale made it very clear that under PABA rules the ref is the only person that has the power to stop rhe fight. Peter Lewis wasn't happy with this but had to accept it. This also went for the IBF World Title fight.

On the night ref asked the doc for his opinion which was to allow the fight to go on. He ignored it and stopped the fight. The ref was NSW ref chosen by the Grange which makes the decision even more strange.

 

I smell an nrl type betting scandal coming up here, I thoght the refs looked like they had new trousers and sand shoes and they looked like the expensive K26's.

 

So the ref asked for an expert opinion and ignored it. LOL. Umm, why did he bother asking???

I wonder if the commission gets this ref to read the ct scans too.

 

Dr Peter Lewis is beyond doubt in my mind stratospheres beyond all Doctors in the fight game.
This man can talk to fighters and understand them on their own level and he is held in high esteem by all fighters here in Melbourne.

Bull****! Doctor can order fight be stopped, not order it to continue. If doctor is not in position to stop it (due to rules or ignored by ref) all he has to do is walk away from the ring.........and over it is.

 

Peter Lewis has insurance cover, therefore feels referees should listen to him at all times. I recall his speech @ 1995 ANBF AGM which concerned me........so much so, I checked whether he was in fact registered medical practitioner, because at the time he was a youthful IKA (International Kickboxing Association) president or vice-president.

Very strange indeed, who was the ref talking to and what was he talking to them about? he seemed to make the decision pretty quickly and imo didnt seem to even ask the doctor for his opnion. 8.28 mark the ref goes to speak to someone, someone says "what do you think mate" Pittman imho didnt not want to contuine.
