Bert Sugar had Larry Holmes at 10 in his atg heavyweight list:D

    His list:
    1 Joe Louis
    2 Muhammad Ali
    3 Jack Dempsey
    4 Jack Johnson
    5 Gene tunney
    6 Rocky Marciano
    7 Ezzard Charles
    8 George Foreman
    9 Joe Frazier
    10 Larry Holmes

Cant say I agree with it tbh.

Fighter that I feel deserve to be above Tyson at HW. In no particular order

    Ali
    Louis
    Lewis
    Johnson
    Jersey Joe
    Dempsey
    Rocky
    Fraizer
    Foreman
    Holmes
    Holyfield
And perhaps at a push Ezzard and Langford (may be a little unfair, but I've gotta make my point )

    Tunney at #5 is abysmal.

No doubt some nostalgic '**** on the Classic will argue that he could beat Lewis or Bowe.

Yeah, id agree. I also wouldnt have Holmes that low, louis that high and I would include Lennox Lewis on it, and maybe Evander Holyfield. Rocky Marciano deserves to be no higher than 9 or 10 aswell.

Sorry Vano, but how can Jersey Joe be in there if Ezzard is at a push? Ezzard beat him three out of four, Louis destroyed him (I couldn't really see a conclusive winner in their first, some say Walcott was robbed, either way, not a consistent fighter) and Marciano walloped him twice. Walcott was a really talented fighter who broke through after a patchy career, but in no way shape or form could you justify him being above Charles. It'd be hard to justify him over Langford IMO.

But over Tyson? Genuinely, I'd love to hear your reasoning, I must be missing something. Johnson, okay, I can just about fathom why someone would have him in the top ten, I actually think he had a pretty uninspiring reign, but yeah, some top wins in there and past prime he was but the Jeffries win is mahoosive!

But I'd definitely have Tyson above Johnson. You'll have your reasons Vano, would love to hear 'em :good

I always end up with Holyfield around #6 or #7, but at HW he was pretty inconsistent at times.

Is it a fair ranking, or just bias on my part..... :think

    Bowe 1-2
    Dokes
    Mercer
    Holmes
    Foreman
    Tyson x2
    Douglas
    Lewis 0-2
    Cooper
    Moorer 1-1
    Stewartx2

If you count victories over 'small Heavys' like you would when there was no Cruiser limit, he has a couple of good wins over good fighters who would be good Heavyweights in most eras. But I think he deserves at least a lower top ten placing AT LEAST. If you give him his longevity and attributes he of course cements his position. He's had some lows as well as highs (series with Ruiz/Toney) but if you score the Valuev fight to him (a draw IMO, still gets kudos due to his age/freakish opponent) then you'd justifiably rank him solidly in the top ten.

He's ace, made adjustments and took on a wide variety of styles, ATG chin, and is as solid and all round fighter as you'll find in the division.
