:patsch that was a genuine mistake on my part. Ezzard was suppose to be in the main list, and Jersey in the 'at a push' section with Langford.

But I do have him over Tyson nonetheless. He outboxed Ezzard in their last encounter, as well a knocking him out before that. I realise Charles had beaten him twice previously, but its impressive still. I understand he was blitzed by Rocky second time around, but during their first fight, was he probably winning (having knocked Marciano down) *before gassing vey late on.*

And yes Louis beat him second time round, but he was hard done by in the first fight IMO (he knocked Joe down twice and lost a razor thin split decision) which many thought he won. And that was when he became the oldest man to challenge for the HW title. Not bad considering many have Louis at 1 or 2 all time.

He's main losses (Louis and Rocky) came against fighters who many have in their top 10 HW lists. Tyson meanwhile, lost to Douglas and twice to Holyfield (is he top 10 heavy?), fighters who rarely enter a top 10 debate (I don't count McBride and Williams for obvious reasons.

I don't see Elmer Ray (Charles) Schmeling (Louis) Wepner, Spinks and Berbick (Ali) Young (Foreman) making many top ten discussions either.

Charles got the better out of the series with Walcott. Really clutching at straws to rank Walcott over Tyson IMO mate. I'd have Wills over Walcott. I might even have Wlad over Walcott :think

I'm not sure Charles did have the better of it. The series finished 2-2, Charles UD'ing Jersey twice, with Jeresy UD'ing and KO'ing Ezzard.

I also understand he wasn't doin too badly against Tiger Jack in both their fights, even tho he was beaten. But Wlad over Walcott? My dear God Flea, your gonna have to explain that 1! If you can, I'll make a case for Mayweather in the top 10 all time :nut

Long dominant reign as consensus no.1. The oppo' isn't there, but Walcott wasn't great in that respect either. Sorry about the Charles slip, my memory has failed me (maybe I heard the last fight was a robbery at some point and it seeped in) Fox was a heavy puncher but no great shakes. I would say Walcott losing to him is not a great thing to bring up if you're trying to convince me of his lofty ranking.

Walcott was quality, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I definitely rank Wlad above him. Both are probably just inside/just outside the top 20.

Walcott was, under no circumstances, greater than Tyson.

Louis above Ali makes me want to shove screwdrivers through my eyes.

Saying they're miles apart is also totally unreasonable.

It's still clear that Ali's above him though.

Sorry Flea I'm just not convinced. His 2 wins over Charles is obviously better than any win Tyson had. This is backed up with solid wins over Elmer Ray, Maxim, Baski, Lee Murray and Bivins. These wins, as well as being very unfortunate to lose a split decision against Louis after he knocked him down twice, as well as winning against Rocky (knocking him down in the process) before gassing very late on proves to me he should be rated ahead of Tyson.*

But you obviously have ur reasons for rating him top 10 Heavy and have backed it up with reasons. I just don't agree

But Jersey is 100% greater than Wlado :deal

Walcott 'gassed' about The Rock? He got brutally sparked :deal

I'm not saying he doesn't have an impressive ledger. It's clear that Tyson has a lot more impressive work.

In a fight, Walcott doesn't get out of the first 30 seconds.

In their second fight Rocky sparked him, I'll concede that. But in their first encounter Jersey was winning the fight before he gassed and was knocked out in the 13th. Tyson probably does beat him if they fought, but that doesn't really prove who should be rated higher

Walcott's got nothing on Tyson IMO, especially win you take quality of performance into account when assessing their wins.

No, their respective ring records do that.

I think if you take into account quality of performances Walcott definitey is ahead of Tyson. He put up a great losing effort against Marciano, winning the fight before being KO'ed, and was ultra unlucky against Joe Louis first time round, knocking him down twice when losing a split decision.
