It may not be drastic weight loss, but theres no way of knowing how he will repond to being 200 after being a fat mess for so long. Its not so much about the weight as it is being comfortable in his body. At 200 hes healthier, but I think he will have some problems adapting.
It would deminish the status of today's boxing even more, certainly after Toney's MMA debacle. And it will keep him (and guys like RJJ) in the sport even longer, because they believe they are "not that shot yet". I would love to see the persconfrence though... "ijam du' crus'wait sjamp now, moddafujcs!", "Ija can beajt su Clusjkow sizz'urz, stoip dujck'n me moddafu's!" :!:
Lebedev is a Top cruiserweight contender. He beat Huck cleanly in Germany I thought. If Toney beats Lebedev, he is by no means shot.
Lebedev would pop that fat oafs big belly open with a straight left. That said,Fat Toney doesn't deserve such a fight.
If you read a few comments back, you know that I don't expect him to win at all! Problem is, Lebedev isn't the most technical fighter of the bunch, and strange things have happend in boxing. But if he wins by some miracle, Toney suddenly isn't shot anymore?!? Come on seriously.... have you ever watched some of 90's JT's fights? Now compare it to the Damon Reed (who's known to be very limited and weak chinned) fight, and tell me James isn't shot!
Yeah I saw this fight coming. You can tell from the posters on here picking Toney that this is a smart fight for Lebedev to make. Since Toney was an outstanding cruiserweight back in 02-03 there is genuine intrigue around it, though in reality Lebedev will destroy Toney. Lebedev will win and keep his name in the mix. It looks like Huck will be required to give Lebedev another shot soon.
This is silly. Lebedev wouldn't be a significant step down from Jirov, only Toney is 8 years older, dropping significant weight as a 40-something, and hasn't won a significant fight in over 5 years. Anyone who thinks Toney has more than a snowball's chance in hell is completely delusional.
Not likely. If Toney can make 200(which is doubtful considering he's already dropped like 50lbs) he would still not be KOd. Easily outpointed IMO since he would be so massively weightdrained, but not KOd by any means. PS. I thought for sure, that Wlad was gonna give him the Nov shot for the real titles. What's this bull**** about Potvetkin.
For some reason seeing this thread title and thinking about these two squaring off just makes me giggle.
Normally no serious sanctioning body would ever sanction that fight, but now Wlad has a WBA belt in his collection of course !:
Well, let's wait and see. I predict a late round ko for Toney. Toney may be older and slower, but he is facing no V. Jirov either. Lebedev ia a small cw, with slow hands who comes straight at you with limited technique. An in shape Toney should at least be competitive.
