I heard that Ibeabuchi rumor also.

With all of these rumors or stories, it is sparring though. Many times the sparring partner might already be in fighting shape and sharp while the other guy isn't. Also in sparring the fighter is usually working on specific things they have trouble with, or specific things in preparation for a certain opponent. It is not uncommon for guys to get dropped or get bested in sparring because of this. Younger Kermit Cintron was said to get the better of Hopkins in some of their sparring sessions as well.

CIntrons sparring with Hopkins was very give and take. 24 rounds total. 12 of those rounds were a toss up, and you could split the other 12 pretty evenly. Saw some great footage of Teddy Reid ko'ing heavyweights, and also saw footage of him taking it to Ike Quartey, and De la Hoya. He told me that Paul Williams gave him the most difficult sparring, but he did eventually sit him down.

My assessment of sparring is as follows. Much is always made of a supposedly lesser fighter getting the better of a bigger name more established boxer in training camps. Here is my opinion as to why this happens. The fighter in camp who is preparing for a big fight is training to perform his best on a certain day... to peak! This fighter is training 2 times a day 5-6 times a week. Sparring partners are in camp only to spar. They get much much more rest, and are not expending themselves nearly as hard. So the sparring partner is fresh for sparring sessions while the main event fighter is depleted by the much higher training load, and the demands of making weight.

Fact: Valero owned Oscar in preparation for Pac fight and would have owned him just as bad as Pac did had they fought

Myth: Oscar claimed it was Ortiz that owned him in sparring.

Saw Rahman beat down Areola and Ibeabuchi in sparring. Dropped them both with body shots.

    Raiymkulov broke Mayweathers ribs.

From an interview but links dead. http://forums.yellowworld.org/showthread.php?t=24297

“He used to talk dirty,” said Raiymkulov of the sessions with “Pretty Boy” Floyd. “F-words, Chinese, this and that.”

Raiymkulov soon had Mayweather in a corner with a glove on his neck.

“I’m gonna cut your throat off,” said Raiymkulov. “Then five of his people jumped in the ring and I was by myself. I said ‘don’t talk to me like that.’”

When the actual fighting got underway, Raiymkulov reportedly broke Mayweather’s rib.

“After that, no more sparring,” he deadpanned.
