Margarito or Mayorga------- who is/was the better fighter?

Mayorga. Margarito is a cheater, and he sucks. While Mayorga often came off as a crude brawler, he had some decent boxing ability when he wanted to. He gave Mosley a much better fight than Margarito, who got raped. Margarito is had a iron chin, but thats it. He's a very overrated fighter and doesn't even have a good resume. Take away the Cotto fight which has an asterisk by it, and who did he beat?? Kermit the Frog:rofl

Mosley is also a cheater and he got raped by mayweather and pacquiao! :deal

It's close but Margarito edges it for me. He was mentally shot against Mosley but fought Williams, Cotto, Cintron and Pacquiao all close to their best. Wont argue with anyone bringing up the plaster as a minus for Marg. Margo would have given Floyd fits if they had fought around the Baldosauras era imo.

Margarito:

4x world champion in one division (1 org twice, 2 others one time apiece). 10-4-0-1 in world title contests.

Mayorga:

3x world champion in two divisions (1 org twice, and one other). 4-3-0-1 in world title contests.



I agree with Rummy that Mayorga's best wins (and performances in his highest-profile losses) beat out Margarito's, though. So from a qualitative standpoint his legacy might be a little brighter.

Really, man? The Margarito that lost to Pacquiao vs. the Mayorga that lost to Cotto? I think Ricardo looked/did much better than Antonio. It was a decent version of Cotto, too. If he was ruined before, he's come back from it.

A freaking damn near middleweight only managed to dole out a bit of puffing to the face of a former light flyweight while getting schooled, shut out, and pizza-faced!

 

If I had to assume that Margaritos gloves weren't ever loaded, Margarito had the better career. Who wins between the two? It's a pickem fight.

 

Margarito and it's not close.

 

Mayorga was better. More explosive, more powerful, more natural talent. But he was not consistent with his performance and his prime came and went quickly

 

I don't see how anyone other than someone with an agenda could say that Margarito was better.


Mayorga was much better in big fights. All Margarito ever did was beat Cotto. Mayorga's win against Forrest trumps anything Margo ever did.


Margo was in his prime and at the top of his game when he lost to Williams and Mosely, and almost got whipped by Clottey.

 

Mayorga did better against Mosley (obviously Cotto did too though) when past his best, he also had quite a short prime and went off to face much bigger men. He has by far the best 2 wins in Forrest. Margarito has the Cotto win, Mayorga lost to Cotto but he was pretty much shot by then, Marg also lost to Santos though. Both beat 6 heads LEwis, Mayorga the better version, Margarito quicker. Mayorga is a bit underrated, Margarito is still overrated around here it seems. There level is close, a head to head would be a very good fight, a shame it didn't happen.
