Popo is still pretty big, he was even at the last UFC in Rio, they filmed and gave him some love on the ppv. UFC only have 2 Champions of 7 that's from Brazil, so they are not really "owning" MMA. btw I don't think too many people can take a punch with 4oz gloves...
I have a theory that Brazil is a hot bed of multiculturalism and this is creating physically advanced people - call it evolution. Blacks, whites, arabs are all there and have been for ages. Its one of the few countries where no matter what you look like you are Brazilian, even though your bloodline originates from Africa, Mid East etc When I think of football, fighting, dancing etc I think Brazil are consistently the best (even good looks). I think the world is changing and the multiculturalism is becoming the norm but Brazil have got many years of races mixing. The same is true for much of South America and the islands. Anyone agree or BS?
Anderson Silva is a failed soccer player so he went the MMA route. Jose Aldo also wanted to become one of the elite in soccer but never could get much so he switch to mma. If i remember right shogun also wanted to become a soccer player
Meh...plenty of different types of football going around. And association football deviates more from the traditional forms of the game than those codes that allow you to hold the ball.
Bumping an older thread, sorry, but personal interest. You would think it would produce more great boxers then. To the people who live/lived there why doesn't boxing have more participation? What reasons do people give for dismissing it? Similar situation with moneyhungry promoters killing the marketing/accessibility?
