I dissagree with you on this point. His choices to fight Judah, Baldmior, Hatton, Marquez and Mosley were more risky than Cotto, Margrito and Clottey. It is also not his fault Pacuiao has so far refused to fight him. The main reason I asked how you rate Mayweather is to get an under standing of how you rate Griffith, since you stated you rate Griffith above Mayweather. Your answer aboce tells me your opinon of Mayweather but leves questons as to where you rate Griffith.
R, having FORTY ONE fights in a 14 year career to me doesn't compare to welterweights of the past, who fought 41 bouts in one YEAR. Why is it only Mannys fault and also not Mayweathers fault that they never met ? It takes two to tango, methinks. For Floyds own ego and place in history he should have fought Pacq a long-time ago. Tell me r,do U think that if it was Joe Blow rather than Manny Pac, Floyd would have not hooked up with Pac, instead of all these stipulations, other than he fears he might very well lose that fight and his lucrative title ? Of course not. The great welters of the past tackled everyone in their division, time and again. If not they would have been stripped of their title. No doubt...Floyd is a product of his times, and I am SURE were he to have fought 10-15 times a year against every top opponent,as they did in the past ,he wouldn't be 41-0. I rate Emile Griffith very highly as a Welter, on a par with everyone in modern times not named Ray Robinson, and probably Kid Gavilan. Take care...
The main issue holding up a Mayweather/Pacquiao match up is the drug testing. Which comes down to a minor inconviance. Pacquiao has publicaly refused. A date takes two willing partners. Thous far Pacquiao has not been a willing partner. How many of those 10-15 fights a year would be non tittle fights? Basicaly meanless exbitions, and not against top oppoestion either.. Dose Mayweather fight less often than is ideal for a champion? Yes he dose. However, unless every one of those 10-15 fights you say he should have are against world class oppoents with his championship on the line. I don't find fighting that often any more impresive. This eara might not produce the same talent as the past, but Mayweather has fought the best of this eara.
You say Manny Pac has NOT been a willing partner? Do you think a Harry Greb, Mickey Walker, Barney Ross, RayRobinson, Kid Gavilan,Emile Griffith, Roberto Duran, would have REFUSED to fight a Pac,whilst other fighters have FOUGHT Manny ? Don't be naive r,they were fighters first and foremost, not a "king" sitting on his laurels... P.S. to say a Robinson, Gavilan, Griffith padded their resume by fighting "exhibitions" is ludicrous. Why don't you check their records r, it will enlighten you. Cheers.
We can only speculate but unlike Pacquiao I don't think that Harry Greb, Mickey Walker, Barney Ross, RayRobinson, Kid Gavilan, & Emile Griffith would let a minnor inconviance like drawing blood get in the way of a fight.
Hell, Mickey didn't even let failing a breathalyzer or blood alcohol test get in the way of a fight.:beer(At least he was well hydrated for Swiderski I.)
R,you have your argument upside down. Why would the great fighters you cited above refuse to fight a Pac,who refuses to draw blood right before a bout, whilst every other opponent of Manny's didn't care a hoot, and FOUGHT him.? All of his opponents didn't find that objectionable,so why not Floyd? It doesn't take a psychologist to ponder if this barrier Floyd puts up is an excuse to NOT RISK losing to Manny. I could see r if it was an Aids blood test Pac refused. So tell me why have all the other opponents fought Pac knowing this, and not Mayweather ? Logic tells us the answer, I think....
Burt you have some twisted logic. First of all those who didn't give a hoot were in no poistion to negoicate terms with Pacquiao. What was the news when Mayweather/Pacquiao was first being negoicated? The news was that they agreed to pretty much everything including a hefty fine for Mayweather and Mayweather only for going over the weight. Perhaps Pacquiao said to himself he did it against Marquez he might do it to me. Fair enough, but there is a drefreance in Mayweather's terms asking for drug testing and Pacquiao's terms for a fine for being to heavy. Mayweather's testing terms were for both boxers. Pacquiao's terms were only for Mayweather who keep in mind agreed to Pacquiao's terms. Clearly if anyone is avoiding a match up it is Pacquiao. Here are the facts Mayweather poses more of a risk for Pacquiao than Pacquiao dose for Mayweather. Mayweather is bigger and a better boxer. Pacquiao's best asset is his speed but not enough to overcome Mayweather's advantages. Mayweather has fought better oppoents at welterweight and throughout his career than Pacquiao has. I don't know if Mayweather beleves that Pacquiao is juicing or if he's trying to get into his head. The fact remains Mayweather has agreed to fight Pacquiao, Pacquiao has not agreed to fight Maywether.
They BOTH have put obstacles to a fight, I suppose. In the 1940s this bout would have been made or ELSE. I,you, or no one else can figure out why this money making fight has never occured, except for the fact they both fear ruining their reputation by a loss. Hell, a Pox on both of them !
My fault. Burt Bienstock said that he ratted Griffith over Mayweather which lead to me asking how he rates Mayweather to get an idea of how he rates Griffith. From there things got out of hand.
